La torre fue construida donde antes hubo otro castillo desde el siglo XIII, derribado en 1482. The current tower is the sixteenth century and was built by Don Alonso Su\u00e1rez de Deza, with permission of Queen Juana la Loca. The tower was built where there had been a thirteenth century castle, demolished in 1482.
