Es el faro en activo m\u00e1s antiguo del mundo. Construido en el siglo II d.C. por los romanos, aunque la mitolog\u00eda la atribuye a H\u00e9rcules, su arquitecto fue en realidad Cayo Sevio Lupo, natural de Co\u00edmbra (hoy Portugal), que dedic\u00f3 esta obra a Marte, el dios romano de la guerra. Su aspecto actual lo debe a la restauraci\u00f3n que dirigi\u00f3 el ingeniero militar extreme\u00f1o Eustaquio Giannini, por orden del rey Carlos III, entre 1788 y 1791.<\/p>\n<p>La torre tiene 49 metros de alto, est\u00e1 situada en las cordenadas 3\u00ba 23\u00b4N - 8\u00ba 24\u00b4W y su luz tiene un alcance de 24 millas.
