The troops of the Spanish Army will be relieved in May by soldiers of the \"Canarias\" XVI Brigade. <strong>Here we see Brigadier General Carlos Prada Larrea, head of the Spanish contingent, reviewing the troop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7882\/46615351545_1db686c4d2_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During this act of homage, General Prada addressed the military present, who carry out <strong>training missions for the Iraqi Army and the Iraqi Police to fight against ISIS, within the framework of Operation Inherent Resolve.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7827\/32588384177_eb2140bf1c_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this tribute to the Spaniards fallen in Iraq, military of other allied nations also participated<\/strong>, concretely Portugal, the United States, France, Canada and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7873\/46615351395_1ce466e0e8_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7805\/46615351425_ee916f87e8_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7875\/32588384607_8e6411116a_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As tradition marks, <strong>the tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain was accompanied by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VzDVYwlZN4w\">the \"Toque de Oraci\u00f3n\" (Touch of Prayer)<\/a><\/strong>, with the participation of the flags of the Spanish military units deployed in Besmayah.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7914\/32588384367_5ca8d568e4_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Both Spaniards and soldiers from other countries deposited wreaths<\/strong> in the monument that remembers in Besmayah the Spanish fallen in Iraq. The American soldiers deposited in the monument a flag of their country, folded in the shape of a triangle, as they usually do to honor their fallen.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7882\/47530779751_0caf1e54de_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the monument of the \"Gran Capit\u00e1n\" Base, n<strong>ext to the Cross and the Coat of Arms of Spain, the names of the fallen ones appear.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7829\/32588383897_6b83c6916e_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; heigth\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The names that appear in that monument are the following, in this order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Captain Manuel Mart\u00edn-Oar Fern\u00e1ndez-Heredia.<\/strong> Spanish Navy. Killed in a terrorist attack in Baghdad on August 20, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>First sergeant Jos\u00e9 Antonio Bernal G\u00f3mez.<\/strong> Spanish Air Force. Killed in a terrorist attack in Baghdad on October 9, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sergeant Luis Antonio Puga Gandara.<\/strong> Spanish Army. Deceased by accidental firing in Diwaniya on October 26, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commander Jos\u00e9 Merino Olivera.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commander Jos\u00e9 Carlos Rodr\u00edguez P\u00e9rez.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commander Alberto Mart\u00ednez Gonz\u00e1lez.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commander Carlos Bar\u00f3 Ollero.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brigade Jos\u00e9 Lucas Egea.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brigade Alfonso Vega Calvo.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sergeant primero Luis Ignacio Zan\u00f3n Tarazona.<\/strong> Spanish Army, serving with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). Killed in terrorist attack in Mahmudiya on November 29, 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commander Gonzalo P\u00e9rez Garc\u00eda.<\/strong> Spanish Civil Guard. Killed in a terrorist attack in Diwaniya on February 4, 2004.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Soldier Aar\u00f3n Vidal L\u00f3pez.<\/strong> Spanish Army. Died in accident during maneuvers in Besmayah on September 8, 2016.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"The honor claimed it and they obeyed,<br \/>\nthey were required by duty and abided;<br \/>\nWith their blood the enterprise signed,<br \/>\nwith their effort the Homeland enlarged.<\/p>\n<p>They were big and strong, because they were<br \/>\nfaithful to the oath that they pledged.<br \/>\nThat's why, as brave they fought,<br \/>\nand as heroes they died.<\/p>\n<p>For the Homeland dying was their destiny,<br \/>\nto love Spain, their eternal passion,<br \/>\nto serve in the Armies, their vocation and fate.<\/p>\n<p>They did not want to serve another Flag,<br \/>\nthey did not want to go another way,<br \/>\nThey did not know how to live otherwise.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>---<\/p>\n<p><small>Photos: Spc.
