{"id":40874,"date":"2019-12-10T06:46:05","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T05:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=40874"},"modified":"2023-12-10T01:34:44","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T00:34:44","slug":"15-member-countries-of-the-united-nations-human-rights-council-persecute-christians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2019\/12\/10\/15-member-countries-of-the-united-nations-human-rights-council-persecute-christians\/","title":{"rendered":"15 member countries of the United Nations Human Rights Council persecute Christians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/documents\/universal-declaration-of-human-rights\/\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/a> protects religious freedom in its Article 18, including the freedom to change religion and manifest it both in public and in private.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2019\/01\/17\/christianophobia-33-muslim-countries-are-among-the-50-that-most-persecute-christians\/\">Christianophobia: 33 Muslim countries are among the 50 that most persecute Christians<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2018\/06\/20\/un-human-rights-council-68-resolutions-against-israel-and-none-against-venezuela\/\">UN Human Rights Council: 68 resolutions against Israel and none against Venezuela<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p><big>In 5 of those 15 countries the persecution againts Christians reaches extreme levels<\/big><\/p>\n<p>However, this human right is not respected by some countries that are currently part of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/SP\/HRBodies\/HRC\/Pages\/Membership.aspx\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The list of current members<\/a> is surprising if we review the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2019\/01\/17\/christianophobia-33-muslim-countries-are-among-the-50-that-most-persecute-christians\/\">World Persecution List 2019 published by the Christian NGO Open Doors<\/a>. According to the data published in that report, we find the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Countries of the Human Rights Council in which there is extreme persecution against Christians:<\/strong> Afghanistan, Eritrea, India, Pakistan and Somalia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Countries of the Human Rights Council in which there is a very high persecution against Christians:<\/strong> China, Egypt, Iraq, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Countries of the Human Rights Council in which there is a high persecution against Christians:<\/strong> Bangladesh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thus, <strong>in total 15 member countries of that Human Rights Council persecute Christians because of their faith<\/strong>, that is, by limiting, in various ways and in various degrees, Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Significantly,<strong> most of those countries, a total of 10, are members of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OCI):<\/strong> Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Tunisia. There is also the circumstance that in one of those countries, Saudi Arabia, the death penalty is applied to anyone who converts to a religion other than Islam. Likewise, <strong>two of these countries have far-left governments:<\/strong> China (it is a communist dictatorship) and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><big>Of those 15 countries only one has been condemned by that Council<\/big><\/p>\n<p>To the above, it should be added that <strong>of the countries mentioned, only Eritrea has been condemned by that Human Rights Council.<\/strong> Despite their numerous violations against these rights - and not only the right to religious freedom -, <strong>countries such as Saudi Arabia and China have never received any conviction<\/strong>, the first being an absolute monarchy and the second a communist dictatorship.
