Two months ago I indicated here that 15 of the member countries of their Human Rights Council persecute Christians, even though the Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims the right to religious freedom (Article 18) and the right not to be discriminated for religious reasons (Articles 2 and 16). It should also be remembered that this Declaration proclaims the right to life in its Article 3, despite which several member countries of the aforementioned Human Rights Council punish homosexuality with the death penalty.

UN Watch notes that seven council members "call to kill gays"

A few days ago Hillel Neuer, executive director of the NGO UN Watch, point seven countries members of the UN Human Rights Council and that at the same time they have laws that "call to kill gays": Afghanistan, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Somalia and Sudan. The membership of these countries to the aforementioned Council can be checked by checking its official list of current members here: the seven mentioned appear in it. Regarding the existence of the death penalty in these seven countries, the NGO Human Dignity Trust (HDT) includes on its website a map showing the countries that apply the death penalty to homosexuals. These seven countries are marked on the map. Coincidentally, all of them are Muslim-majority countries and all seven are members of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation.

A fact that violates resolution 60/251 of the UN General Assembly

The director of UN Watch has also indicated what is established by the norms of the aforementioned Human Rights Council, specifically the resolution 60/251 of the UN General Assembly in its Article 8: "when electing members of the Council, Member States shall take into account the contribution of candidates to the promotion and protection of human rights and their voluntary pledges and commitments made thereto; the General Assembly, by a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting, may suspend the rights of membership in the Council of a member of the Council that commits gross and systematic violations of human rights." Did the examination on the promotion and protection of human rights in the seven countries mentioned obviate, perhaps, the fact that they punish homosexuality with the death penalty? Perhaps that test was not even done, as does the persecution of 15 member countries against Christians?

The Council rage against Israel, where homosexuals enjoy freedom

On the other hand, it should be remembered that in 2018 Hillel Neuer pointed out that between 2006-16 the UN Human Rights Council issued 68 sentences against Israel, a democratic country in which homosexuals are not persecuted for their sexual orientation and enjoy a freedom comparable to what they have in western countries. At the same time, the Council issued only 6 convictions against Iran and 3 against Sudan, countries that punish homosexuality with death. Other countries that impose the same punishment on gays, such as Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar and Yemen, did not receive a single conviction. Coincidentally, those same countries that execute homosexuals are among those who persecute Christians most harshly. Given these serious facts, which should provoke a strong reaction from democratic countries, we should ask: what credibility can the UN have when it entrusts the protection and promotion of human rights to Islamic regimes that violate the most basic of those rights?

What do progressive and LGTBI organizations to denounce those islamic countries?

On the other hand, LGTBI pressure groups that often complain about Christians and conservatives in the West with any excuse, how many campaigns have they developed to denounce those Islamic countries that punish homosexuality with death? And the progressive organizations that claim to guard gay rights and constantly demand boycotts against Israel, how many protests have they made before the embassies of those Islamic countries and how many boycotts against them have they claimed?

---

Photo: EPA-Stringer.

The credibility of the United Nations Organization (UN) as a protector of human rights has been questioned by the contradictions that exist in that body.

[10373
12300,13616,10853,1645,8801,21998,1822,1818,12295,1821,11820,13615,10473
post-41407","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-world","tag-afghanistan","tag-hillel-neuer","tag-homosexuality","tag-mauritania","tag-nigeria","tag-organization-of-islamic-cooperation-oic","tag-pakistan","tag-qatar","tag-somalia","tag-sudan","tag-un-human-rights-council","tag-un-watch","tag-united-nations
