\"Top Gun\" is the nickname of the Navy Fighter Weapons School<\/strong>, created by the United States Navy in 1969 at the Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California, to offer additional instruction to naval fighter airmen in close-range air-to-air engagements<\/strong>, known in aviation parlance as \"dog fights\".<\/p>\n Currently, the Top Gun program is conducted at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center<\/strong> at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, and is officially called the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Program.<\/strong> Gone are the times when your students flew with the famous F-14 Tomcat. They now fly in the F\/A-18E Super Hornet, and face an Aggressor Squadron equipped with different types of aircraft<\/strong>, from F-16A to F\/A-18A\/B Hornet and F\/A-18E\/F Super Hornet, going through the F-5E Tiger II.
