In World War II<strong> she enlisted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2017\/02\/14\/armia-krajowa-75-years-ago-was-founded-the-largest-resistance-movement-of-the-ww2\/\">Armia Krajowa<\/a> (AK, National Army), the main resistance organization Polish against Nazi Germany<\/strong>, using the pseudonym \"Dzidka\". She was part as liaison officer of the 6th Company \"Wawer\" of the Battalion \"Kili\u0144ski\" of the AK during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2019\/08\/01\/warsaw-1944-when-poland-rose-against-the-third-reich-and-stalin-stand-idly-by\/\">Warsaw Uprising of 1944<\/a>,<strong> being wounded on September 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51689096248_f4d22132c8_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>After the World War II, and in the midst of the communist persecution against the former members of the AK, he went to the United Kingdom and then to the United States<\/strong>, where he met Professor Carlos S\u00e1nchez del R\u00edo y Sierra (1924-2013), president of the CSIC between 1978 and 1980, with whom he married, establishing his residence in Spain. <strong>She passed away on December 4, 2012 in Madrid, being buried in Borja.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51713055292_a61e8c1e2b_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last Saturday's tribute was organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polandfirsttofight.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the \"Poland First to Fight\" Historical-Cultural Association<\/a>, which is dedicated to organizing historical reenactments and other cultural and informative activities on the history of Poland in the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-1921 and the World War II. <strong>The event counted with the collaboration of the Embassy of Poland in Spain<\/strong>, the Polish Institute of Culture, the Ministry of Defense of Poland, the Center for Borjan Studies, the Borja City Council and the Association of Poles in Spain \u00c1guila Blanca. <a href=\"https:\/\/cesbor.blogspot.com\/2021\/11\/homenaje-en-el-cementerio-dona-lilliana.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The photos you see in these entries have been published by the blog of the Centro de Estudios Borjanos.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51713844691_5100b4ec93_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by several members of the \"Poland First to Fight\" Association wearing uniforms of the Polish Army in World War II. In addition, <strong>the Consul General of Poland in Madrid, Justyna Tokarska, and the Defense Attach\u00e9 at the Polish Embassy, Colonel Robert Tkaczyk<\/strong>, were present.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51713055232_f5e35001ed_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Among the attendees were also representatives of the <strong>Polish Institute of Culture<\/strong>, Ernest Kowalcyk and Gabriela Slowinska, the<strong> Honorary Consul of Poland for the north of Spain<\/strong>, \u00c1ngel Tellechea Goyena, the head of Culture of the<strong> Polish Consulate in Pamplona<\/strong>, Anna Radomska, and the professor Gregorz Bak, Academic Secretary of the Department of Slavic Philology and Coordinator of Slavic Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid. In addition, <strong>Cristina S\u00e1nchez del R\u00edo Skorel, daughter of the honoree, attended, along with her husband.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51714506454_c7c2650057_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the event, the Spanish and Polish national anthems were interpreted, and <strong>the Polish priest Marius Pielu\u017cek, specially posted for the event from Poland<\/strong>, gave a response for Lilliana.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51713055317_b17f3a4468_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the event,<strong> a plaque dedicated by the Polish Embassy to Lilliana Skorel was discovered<\/strong>, located behind her grave.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51714506409_ec636264ce_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wreaths with the colors of the Polish flag<\/strong>, the daughter of the honoree, the Polish Institute of Culture and the Polish Embassy, were placed on the grave of the honoree.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51714726805_188b177ca8_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition to this tribute, <a href=\"https:\/\/cesbor.blogspot.com\/2021\/11\/acto-de-la-casa-de-aguilar.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a colloquium talk on the Warsaw Uprising was given at the Centro de Estudios Borjanos<\/a>.
