In 2020, the German newspaper Deutsche Welle warned that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/why-are-german-neo-nazis-training-in-russia\/a-53702613\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">German neo-Nazis were receiving paramilitary training in Russia<\/a>, <strong>something unthinkable without the consent of the Kremlin<\/strong>, whose security service - the FSB - should not have ignored the presence of these elements in Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, <a href=\"https:\/\/khpg.org\/en\/1608809502\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in 2021, a Russian neo-nazi leader revealed that a Putin deputy minister encouraged him to commit acts of terrorism in Ukraine<\/a>. In March 2014, <strong>armed separatist groups took control of Donetsk and Lugansk provinces<\/strong>, turning them into \"people's republics\", using the terminology used for decades by various communist dictatorships. The denomination was not accidental: <strong>the separatists organized \"soviets\" in the style of the former USSR and turned those provinces into <em>de facto<\/em> dictatorships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Skipping the legality, and in an attempt to legitimize their armed rebellion, in May 2014 and in the midst of the war -initiated by them- against the Ukrainian government, the separatists <strong>organized a fraudulent independence referendum that was not recognized by any government, nor even for Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51911464553_5f0d14a733_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Alexey Markov, commander of the Prizrak Brigade of the pro-Russian separatists from Lugansk, pictured with communist flags (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/511429138958013\/posts\/3017910388309863\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Euskal Herria-Donbass Elkartasun Komitea<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><big>Adopting Soviet paraphernalia in a process controlled by Moscow<\/big><\/p>\n<p>A Russian media outlet, Gazeta.ru, confirmed two years later that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazeta.ru\/politics\/2016\/05\/19_a_8254373.shtml\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this separatist coup was organized by the Communist Party of Ukraine<\/a>: <em>\"<strong>Only they had disciplined assets for the formation of electoral commissions<\/strong>,\"<\/em> that information said. <em>\"At the forefront of the movement were the grassroots organizations of the Communist Party.\"<\/em> In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:COA_LPR_oct_2014.svg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the so-called \"Lugansk People's Republic\" adopted a Soviet-style shield with the communist red star<\/a>, while <a href=\"https:\/\/vostokcable.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/29\/symbolism-in-donetsk\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the \"Donetsk People's Republic\" adopted an imitation of the old Soviet KGB shield for its security service<\/a>. In November 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6Sqikx-l7aA\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexey Mozgovoi, one of the Lugansk separatist leaders, announced his intention to build a \"socialist\" state<\/a> at a commemoration of the 1917 Bolshevik coup.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51911688949_7242e54ebf_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The Soviet-style coat of arms of the so-called \"Lugansk People's Republic,\" one of two separatist-controlled territories in eastern Ukraine (Image: <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:COA_LPR_oct_2014.svg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leonid 2\/Wikimedia<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Despite their contribution to the coup, <strong>the Putin regime, which was the real architect of the coup, decided to leave the communists aside<\/strong> and did not even allow their participation in the electoral farce organized in both provinces in November 2014: <strong>the separatists they organized legislative elections in Donetsk and Lugansk in which only two pro-Moscow separatist parties could attend.<\/strong> After the elections, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazeta.ru\/politics\/2016\/05\/19_a_8254373.shtml\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>\"the final lists of deputies were edited in Moscow,\"<\/em> Gazeta.ru noted.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><big>The participation of neo-nazi groups in the pro-Russian separatist coup<\/big><\/p>\n<p>This process explains<strong> the communist paraphernalia that many of the Donb\u00e1s separatist militiamen<\/strong> have been displaying and the support they have received from the western far-left. But what some ignore is that in that Ukrainian region <strong>there are not only communists fighting with the separatists, but also nazis<\/strong>, and not in merely testimonial positions. Without going any further, <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/117048\/far-right-forces-are-influencing-russias-actions-crimea\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the first self-proclaimed \"governor\" of the \"Donetsk People's Republic\" was Pavel Gubarov, a former member of the neo-Nazi group Russian National Unity.<\/a> <\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51911666694_fab3e89aae_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">A Russian Nazi fighting alongside Donbass separatists, with a huge Third Reich eagle tattooed on his back, captured by Ukrainian forces in June 2014 (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dialog.ua\/news\/59501_1434308440\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dialog.ua<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Just as World War II began with an alliance of Nazis and Soviets to invade Poland, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/monkey-cage\/wp\/2014\/06\/26\/is-anyone-in-charge-of-russian-nationalists-fighting-in-ukraine\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">neo-nazi volunteers from the Russian National Unity, the Slavic Union and the Eurasian Youth Union began to arrive in the Donbass<\/a>. Another of the neo-nazi groups that have fought in the Donb\u00e1s is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dialog.ua\/news\/60130_1434724705\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the DSHRG \"Rusich\", led by Alexei Milchakov, of which a photo has been spread displaying a nazi flag<\/a>. In June 2014, a Russian media media also reported the presence of <a href=\"https:\/\/newdaynews.ru\/policy\/500494.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a Polish detachment led by Bartosz Beker<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/euromaidanpress.com\/2016\/01\/27\/ukrainians-in-warsaw-may-to-jail-for-3-years-for-disrespecting-putin\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former leader of the neo-fascist and anti-Semitic group National Radical Camp (ONR)<\/a>.
