{"id":47390,"date":"2022-05-14T23:26:08","date_gmt":"2022-05-14T21:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=47390"},"modified":"2022-06-22T21:38:38","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T19:38:38","slug":"war-zone-exploration-an-abandoned-russian-military-camp-near-chernobyl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/05\/14\/war-zone-exploration-an-abandoned-russian-military-camp-near-chernobyl\/","title":{"rendered":"War zone exploration: an abandoned Russian military camp near Chernobyl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here we have often seen explorations of sites that were the scene of battles years ago, but never a place in a country that is still at war.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2019\/01\/16\/this-is-the-dead-zone-of-belarus-the-most-restricted-of-all-those-around-chernobyl\/\">This is the Dead Zone of Belarus: the most restricted of all those around Chernobyl<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2018\/05\/09\/the-road-of-the-bones-a-mass-grave-of-the-stalinist-genocide-of-2000-km-long\/\">The Road of the Bones: a Mass Grave of the Stalinist Genocide of 2,000 km Long<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, the Ukrainian urban explorer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCcXkG1K4LFasc-i-_pfOymA\/featured\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stepanets<\/a> has published <strong>two interesting videos in which he travels to the vicinity of the old Chernobyl nuclear power plant<\/strong>, which, as you may remember, was occupied by the Russian invaders between February 24 and March 31.<strong> Here the first part:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Q3NO9mgpTT0\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And here <strong>the second part:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n47i7OcQ--s\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The two videos have comments in Russian (it is a language spoken by the Ukrainian population) and the subtitles have an automatic translation into Spanish, but it is somewhat deficient. In one of the videos, <strong>the Ukrainian explorer comments on the high risk of this activity: part of it was done at night and they could take him for a saboteur<\/strong> (bear in mind that there is a curfew in much of Ukraine due to the invasion).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073433846_d7d2db90cf_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the way to Chernobyl, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/03\/27\/russia-has-attacked-59-temples-and-religious-centers-in-ukraine-this-is-how-they-remained\/\">the explorer passes the Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious, near Irp\u00edn, in the kyiv region, which was bombed by the Russians on March 6<\/a>. It is sad to see the little respect shown for a sacred place (an Orthodox Christian temple, to be exact) by invaders who claim to have that religion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073434343_6616f80f31_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 5px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073434543_6c960f9fae_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:5px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the first video, <strong>destroyed tanks can be seen by the roadside<\/strong>, something that has already become a regular part of the Ukrainian landscape since February 24.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073433731_eb758b379b_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Near the Russian military camp, in the second video, they find<strong> a tanker truck of the Ukrainian Army, destroyed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073433751_db5feb0f23_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They also appear in the second video, these destroyed <strong>BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles appear <\/strong>(I don't know if they are Russian or Ukrainian, they are burned and the paint is not distinguishable).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52072388237_0e4f7dc329_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another sign of how dangerous the area has become:<strong> an unexploded rocket embedded in the asphalt of a road.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073915500_498b418839_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the abandoned Russian camp they find boxes of ammunition<\/strong> and also remains of combat rations, as well as unused landmines. <strong>Stepanets inserts a rod from time to time in the ground in case they find buried mines.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52072388262_6e8b78d403_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another remnant of the abandoned Russian camp: <strong>a Russian Army cap left there by the invaders.<\/strong> With a somewhat outdated aspect for the current times, by the way...<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52073915640_331357fc11_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside the Russian military camp, <strong>Stepans finds some runes and the text \"M8L8TH\"<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M8L8TH\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the name of a Russian neo-Nazi music group<\/a>.
