The Russian invasion of Ukraine is giving rise to truly amazing images of the destruction of battle tanks by anti-tank missiles.<\/p>\n

The brutal explosion of a Russian T-72 tank: the big problem of the loaders again<\/a><\/rel>

Russian tanks have three major flaws. The first is poor armor on top of its turret<\/strong>, a vulnerability exploited by the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles attacking precisely from above. The second defect is<\/strong> the poor protections of some of the most numerous Russian tanks<\/a>, such as the T-72B3 and the T-80, useless protections against modern anti-tank weapons and explaining the documented loss of 926 Russian tanks<\/a> in these 5 months of invasion.<\/p>\n

The third and most serious vulnerability of Russian tanks, its true Achilles' heel, is<\/strong> the automatic loader and without protection in the base of the turret<\/a>. Unlike Western tanks, which house their ammunition in an armored compartment at the rear of their turrets, Russian tanks house shells and projection charges separately at the base of their turrets<\/strong>, so that any projectile that manages to penetrate inside the car, even if by its own action does not cause serious damage, can give rise to catastrophic effects if it manages to set fire to the interior of the vehicle and ignite the projection charges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The best-known effect of this Achilles' heel is the classic image of a Russian tank turret flying through the air<\/strong>, powered by the ignition of its own projection charges when hit.
