British writer Salman Rushdie, 75, was stabbed today by an individual while participating in a public event in Chautauqua, New York.<\/p>\n
According to the statement released by the New York State Police<\/a>, the attack occurred around 11:00 local time. The attacker has been arrested. Rushdie has been airlifted to a hospital. His status is currently unknown.<\/p>\n Threatened with death for writing a book on Islam<\/big><\/p>\n Rushdie has been receiving death threats for decades after the publication in 1988 of his fourth book, \"The Satanic Verses\"<\/strong>, which deals with Islam and was considered blasphemous by Ayatollah Khomeini, supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which issued a fatwa against the writer and against the publishers of the work<\/strong>, calling on all Muslims to kill them and declaring those who die in the attempt to be martyrs. According to the BBC, Iran offered a $3 million reward who murdered the writer<\/a>. To date, the reward keeps active<\/a>. In fact, just a few days ago Iran renewed that call for assassination against Rushdie<\/a><\/p>\n Crimes committed as a result of Khomeini's fatwa<\/big><\/p>\n As a consequence of that fatwa, in July 1991 the translator of the Japanese edition, Professor Hitoshi Igarashi, was stabbed to death<\/a>. Around those same dates, the translator of the Italian edition, Ettore Capriolo, was also stabbed<\/a>, managing to survive that assassination attempt. In October 1993, the book's Norwegian publisher, Wiliam Nygaard, suffered an assassination attempt<\/a> in which he was shot three times. In turn, Rushdie himself has been with an escort for decades<\/strong>. The British government put him under police protection as a result of Khomeini's fatwa issued against him.<\/p>\n Iran, a state promoter of terrorism on an international scale<\/big><\/p>\n The campaign to assassinate the British writer is not an isolated case. Iran has been a known promoter of terrorism on an international scale for many years.<\/strong> It has been supporting and financing Islamist terrorist groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon<\/a>, Al Sabirin<\/a> and Hamas in Gaza<\/a>, Islamic Jihad in Palestine<\/a> and Islamist terrorists in Bahrain<\/a>.<\/p>\n The collusion of some in the West with Iran<\/big><\/p>\n Despite those facts, we have seen such outrageous things as the defense of Iran by the socialist Josep Borrell<\/a> when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, and the no less scandalous positions of the socialist government Pedro S\u00e1nchez allowing himself to be lectured on human rights by Iran<\/a> and voting together with that misogynistic Islamic dictatorship against Israel<\/a> in the UN Human Rights Council UN, accusing Israel, in the height of shamelessness, of violating the rights of women, who enjoy full equality in Israel while in Iran they are discriminated in a miserable way.<\/p>\n The countries of the West, and in particular Spain, must once and for all abandon this infamous collusion with a terrorist state like Iran<\/strong>, which is the instigator of the attack suffered today by Rushdie.
