The article has caused a controversial in the US, as it was initially published under the title "How the Rosary became an extremist symbol".

Already in his first paragraph, Panneton states: "the rosary has acquired a militaristic meaning for radical-traditional (or “rad trad”) Catholics. On this extremist fringe, rosary beads have been woven into a conspiratorial politics and absolutist gun culture. Perhaps worried that we Catholics intend to pepper the devil with prayers, Panneton states: "As Pope Francis said in a 2020 address, “There is no path to holiness … without spiritual combat,” and Francis is only one of many Church officials who have endorsed the idea of the rosary as an armament in that fight."

Scandalized by the "combat Rosaries" of the Pontifical Swiss Guard

One of the most hilarious paragraphs in the article notes that a Catholic store "sells replicas of the rosaries issued to American soldiers during the First World War as “combat rosaries”." Discerning consumers can also buy a “concealed carry” permit for their combat rosary and a sacramental storage box resembling an ammunition can. In 2016, the pontifical Swiss Guard accepted a donation of combat rosaries; during a ceremony at the Vatican, their commander described the gift as “the most powerful weapon that exists on the market”." Next, the author of the article goes on a rampage against "militarism" saying that it "glorifies a warrior mentality and notions of manliness and male strength."

It is worth asking what would democracy be today if some very militaristic gentlemen had not risked their lives -and in many cases even died in combat- in defense of Freedom against Nazism, so that characters like Panneton can freely publish their opinions. Would Panneton prefer that the West had confronted Hitler with candles and some protest song? In their ideological self-absorption, much of the left has no qualms about showing their ingratitude for those who took so many risks in defense of democracy. It's a disgusting attitude.

The curious concept of "hate" that the author of that article has

The most curious thing about the case at hand is that, as revealed by the Townhall website on Tuesday, Panneton is manager of the Online Hate Research & Education Project, which runs a program against hate speech with a generous grant from 340,000 dollars by the government of Canada, in the hands of the progressive Justin Trudeau. That entity maintains a website, hatepedia.ca, which includes among the "symbols of hate" the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the old Canadian Flag. Significantly, this website does not include a single symbol used by Islamic extremists.

Will we have to get a gun license to pray?

Let's imagine for a moment what would happen if someone were to talk about the Islamic Misbaha (a religious object with an appearance similar to that of the Catholic Rosary) in the same terms that Panneton has used to disqualify the Catholic Rosary. Cries of "Islamophobia" would soon be heard from the left itself, mixed with reminders that a Muslim who only prays is not a threat to anyone. But a Catholic praying the Rosary is something that keeps some progressives up at night because they consider that he is using a weapon. Will we have to get a gun license to pray? Are progressives planning to ask that Catholic oratories be legally equated with shooting galleries or weapons depots? Is the left planning to make Satan a Rosary-proof vest?

The author of the article also tried to criminalize the pro-life movement

As if all of the above wasn't enough, in May Panneton published an article attempting to link anti-abortion opponents to anti-Semitism and white supremacy. The article openly defended abortion, referring to it as a "right." In the end we are in the same situation that we always find ourselves. The left systematically uses the word "hate" to criminalize all those who do not agree with its dogmas, almost always turning a blind eye to true forms of hatred that are supported by groups that the left They are nice and friendly. Is it possible to imagine a more infamous attitude of hate than that which considers it legitimate to kill an innocent and defenseless human being? Are those who are going to teach us against "hate" the same ones who hold as hateful as that?

---

Photo: Pxhere.com.

In its countercultural discourse and rejection of the West, the left is assuming increasingly absurd and ridiculous ideological theses.

[19536,10712
10424,10976,17209,17208
post-48318","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-we-said-yesterday","category-religion-eng","tag-catholic-church","tag-christianophobia","tag-daniel-panneton","tag-the-atlantic
