This afternoon Queen Elizabeth II<\/a> passed away at the age of 96. She is the person who has occupied the throne of England the longest: 70 years and 214 days.<\/p>\n

In addition to the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II was recognized as Queen by other countries of the British Commonwealth of Nations:<\/strong> Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu. To the readers who can read me from those countries I send my condolences for the death of her Queen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regardless of the lesser or greater sympathy that each one feels for their country (which has my respect and which I value as an ally, regardless of the historical differences that separate it from Spain), Elizabeth II was a great woman and has behaved like a worthy Queen<\/strong>, something less and less common in current monarchies. In all these years she has managed to earn the respect and appreciation of her people, and also that of people from other countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I wish her successor on the throne a good reign and that he knows how to live up to his mother. With the death of Elizabeth II a long stage in the history of the United Kingdom ends<\/strong>, in which she did not hesitate to enlist in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the World War II to serve her country, and in which her father had a very important role standing by his people while the German bombers attacked London.<\/p>\n

The United Kingdom and the other monarchies in which Elizabeth reigned now face a difficult future<\/strong>, as for several generations its citizens have known no other monarch than her. In the current circumstances, when the world is facing such dangerous challenges<\/strong> as Russian imperialism and the growing threat from China, I hope that the new King can and knows how to give continuity to an institution like the British crown, which it is very important for a country that occupies a prominent place in Europe and throughout the West.<\/p>\n

Rest in peace.<\/b><\/p>\n
