The Soviet dictator used hunger as a weapon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2017\/12\/18\/the-more-than-100-million-deaths-that-communism-caused-divided-by-countries\/\">killing between 3.9 and 6 million people<\/a>. This genocide was especially unique since with it <strong>Stalin proposed to exterminate the majority of the Ukrainian people<\/strong>, as part of a campaign of Russification of that country that the Soviets had already started in the 1920s, <strong>for the purpose of destroying the national spirit of Ukraine<\/strong>, which was not to the liking of the communist internationalism of the Soviet authorities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439516336_d4031bdcb0_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><big>This was the Mariupol monument to the victims of the Holodomor<\/big><\/p>\n<p><strong>There are 13 memorials to Holodomor victims in Ukraine.<\/strong> The Mariupol memorial was one of them. <a href=\"https:\/\/day.kyiv.ua\/uk\/article\/cuspilstvo\/vistup-bez-mikrofona\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The monument was unveiled on November 27, 2004<\/a>, the day after the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Holodomor and Political Repression in Ukraine. The monument <strong>was located next to 56 Universytets'ka Street, very close to the Dramatic Theater destroyed by a Russian attack on March 16.<\/strong> Its construction was an initiative of the historical and educational society \"Memorial from Mariupol.<\/p>\n<p>The design was entrusted to architects Yuriy Sagirov and Kostyantyn Okulenko. <strong>The square-shaped monument was divided into two parts made up of granite slabs:<\/strong> one red, symbolizing blood, and the other black, symbolizing the earth. An intertwined barbed wire was placed on the red block, and ears of wheat on the black one. <strong>Between the two slabs was a crack symbolizing the confrontation between the Soviet government and Ukrainian society.<\/strong> On one side of the black granite slab was an inscription in Ukrainian: \"\u0416\u0415\u0420\u0422\u0412\u0410\u041c \u0413\u041e\u041b\u041e\u0414\u041e\u041c\u041e\u0420\u0423 1932-1933 p.p \u0422\u0410 \u041f\u041e\u041b\u0406\u0422\u0418\u0427\u041d\u0418\u0425 \u0420\u0415\u041f\u0420\u0415\u0421\u0406\u0419\" (<strong>To the victims of Holodomor 1932-1933 and political repression<\/strong>). On top of the black slab there was this other inscription in Ukrainian: \"\u041d\u0415 \u0417\u0410\u0411\u0423\u0414\u0415\u041c\u041e \u0422\u0420\u0410\u0413\u0415\u0414\u0406\u0407 \u041c\u0418\u041d\u0423\u041b\u041e\u0413\u041e, \u0429\u041e\u0411 \u041d\u0415 \u041f\u0415\u0420\u0415\u0416\u0418\u0422\u0418 \u0407\u0425 \u0417\u041d\u041e\u0412\u0423\" (<strong>We will not forget the tragedies of the past so as not to relive them<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52440039223_89f54f12f7_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><big>Russian occupiers destroy and remove the monument<\/big><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/rian_ru\/182454\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Russian state agency RIA Novosti announced today<\/a>, <strong>the authorities installed by the occupants have ordered the removal of the monument<\/strong>. The Russian agency has published a video showing images of its destruction and removal by means of a crane truck. In the video released by RIA Novosti appear <a href=\"https:\/\/theins.ru\/en\/news\/256182\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">several collaborators of the occupiers downplaying the Ukrainian genocide<\/a> and framing it in the famines that affected the USSR (caused by the communists themselves). One of the people who appears in the video, Yevgenia Krotova, states: <em>\"<strong>It is not a monument that we are demolishing, but a symbol of political disinformation<\/strong>\"<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439015822_8afdb18e1e_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><big>The pro-Soviet historical revisionism that Putin is doing<\/big><\/p>\n<p>The destruction of this monument is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2021\/01\/29\/putin-comes-to-the-rescue-of-communism-wants-to-prohibit-equivalent-to -the-ussr-with-nazism\/\">the policy of the Putin government dedicated to preventing criticism of the crimes of the Soviet dictatorship<\/a>, including those committed by the Stalin regime. Let us remember that <strong>United Russia, Putin's party<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/01\/23\/ten-facts-right-wing-people-who-sympathize-with-vladimir-putin-seem-to-ignore\/\">has criticized the condemnations of the crimes of the communist dictatorships by the Council of Europe and the European Union<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, <strong>Putin has promoted laws that prohibit remembering the alliance of the USSR with Nazi Germany to invade Poland<\/strong> (his government even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2021\/09\/17\/the-lie-of-the-russian-government-to-justify-the-soviet-invasion-of-poland-in-1939\/\">has presented the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 as a \"liberation\"<\/a>) and any comparison between the crimes of genocide committed by the Nazis and those committed by the Soviets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/01\/23\/ten-facts-right-wing-people-who-sympathize-with-vladimir-putin-seem-to-ignore\/\">as I already pointed out here<\/a>.
