{"id":49075,"date":"2022-10-24T23:25:02","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T21:25:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=49075"},"modified":"2022-10-26T23:14:23","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:14:23","slug":"an-old-royal-navy-lynx-hma8-on-an-abandoned-paintball-field-in-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/10\/24\/an-old-royal-navy-lynx-hma8-on-an-abandoned-paintball-field-in-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"An old Royal Navy Lynx HMA8 on an abandoned paintball field in Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes I wonder if those who build an aircraft can imagine the picturesque places where it can end its days.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/07\/08\/cornwall-an-airfield-with-old-harrier-fighters-and-other-derelict-aircraft\/\">Cornwall: an airfield with old Harrier fighters and other derelict aircraft<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/09\/16\/a-desert-in-which-three-strategic-bombers-from-the-cold-war-are-abandoned\/\">A desert in which three strategic bombers from the Cold War are abandoned<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>An example of this is what can be seen in this video, recorded in an abandoned paintball field in Glasgow (Scotland).<strong> The great attraction of the site was a Westland Lynx HMA8 helicopter of the British Royal Navy.<\/strong> Thanks to its numeral, XZ690, I have found information about this aircraft at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helis.com\/database\/cn\/6556\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">helis.com<\/a>.<strong> It was delivered to the Fleet Air Arm on May 30, 1979<\/strong>, originally a Lynx HAS2 and with the construction number 113.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In 1992 it was upgraded to the HAS3 version and in 1997 to the HMA8<\/strong>, a naval attack version with the radar installed in the lower part of the nose and a FLIR sight in the upper part. His last registration with the Royal Navy is from 2008, and <strong>in October 2017 he appeared in this paintball field.<\/strong> The Youtube channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/ExploringwithAlec\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Exploring with Alec<\/a> posted a video of that location, showing the helicopter:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Abandoned Paintball Site - SCOTLAND\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/osM1-qRd4qk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You can see some screenshots of the video here. The paintball field is quite large, and among other attractions it has a double-decker bus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52451730561_51132b8be5_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next to the bus they also abandoned the driver...<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52452179775_8e46528e51_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A zombie warning. Maybe this explains why the paintball field is abandoned.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52452179710_323b04b260_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The place has its own wooden castle, very well done.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52451210092_0f24f28ee4_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Does anyone know if there are a couple of moai missing on Easter Island?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52451730456_c8e70fcc19_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the paintball field there is also an old armored Ferret from the British Army. These vehicles were withdrawn from service in 1991.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52452179640_ccb42d34d0_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; margin:10px 0 10px 0;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Crown jewel. The Lynx is in a relatively intact condition on the outside.
