Today the Atlantic Alliance released theirs with a video.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/07\/06\/hej-sokoly-the-beautiful-and-nostalgic-love-song-that-unites-ukrainians-and-poles\/\">'Hej Soko\u0142y', the beautiful and nostalgic love song that unites Ukrainians and Poles<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/07\/21\/the-wayfaring-stranger-the-story-of-the-beautiful-christian-song-from-the-movie-1917\/\">'The Wayfaring Stranger', the story of the beautiful Christian song from the movie '1917'<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>The video has been released in the early afternoon on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@NATO\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">official NATO YouTube channel<\/a>, and in it we see <strong>soldiers from Denmark, Latvia, Spain and the United States singing a Christmas carol in a snow-covered Latvian forest<\/strong>. The theme chosen is a Christmas carol that has been very popular in the United States for many years: <strong>\"Carol of the Bells\"<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Happy Holidays from all of us at NATO | NATO end of year video 2022\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jBaOO5CngMk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The choice of this Christmas carol is not accidental. As the description of the video recalls, <strong>it was composed by Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921), a Ukrainian composer murdered by the Soviet Cheka.<\/strong> Its original title was \"Sch\u00e9dryk\" (Abundant Night) and the music was composed in 1916. The original Ukrainian lyrics were dedicated to the New Year, although today it is sung in Ukraine on the occasion of Christmas. <strong>It was performed by the National Choir of Ukraine at Carnegie Hall in New York on October 5, 1921<\/strong> under the direction of Alexander Koshetz.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The English lyrics were published in 1936 by Peter J. Wilhousky<\/strong>, an American of Ukrainian origin, becoming a very popular song in North America to this day. <strong>The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused this beautiful Christmas carol to become a link between Ukraine and the West<\/strong>, which is why NATO has chosen it to congratulate this Christmas.
