Spanish military aid to Turkey<\/a> due to Monday's earthquakes has been extended in the last few hours with the dispatch of two naval units to that country.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the Spanish Ministry of Defense announced<\/a> that the aircraft carrier \"Juan Carlos I\" L-61<\/strong>, with 500 marines on board, and the amphibious assault ship \"Galicia\" L-51<\/strong>, had been sailing since Monday bound for Turkey, \"to the area affected by the earthquake, in order to help in the rescue and rescue tasks\".<\/em> Both ships are part of the D\u00e9dalo 23 Aeronaval Amphibious Group<\/a> deployed in January in the Mediterranean Sea for some exercises.<\/p>\n

These Spanish Navy resources join the soldiers of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and civilian firefighters from Madrid sent on Monday<\/a>, as well as the soldiers of the Spanish Army deployed in the Incirlik Air Base<\/strong>, in the affected area, in Operation Support for Turkey, an operation that began in 2014 with which Spain deployed a battery of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles in that country against the threat of ISIS. The D\u00e9dalo 23 Air-Naval Amphibious Group fleet<\/strong>, deployed by Spain in January in the Mediterranean and is now coming to support Turkey.
