And it is not like that. I have decided to give <strong>some notes for those who do not know Vigo or the weight it has in Spain:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vigo, with 292,374 inhabitants, is the most populous city in Galicia<\/strong>, and the only one in this community with more than 250,000 inhabitants (La Coru\u00f1a has 244,700, taking as reference the statistical data corresponding to January 1, 2022).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo is the 14th most populous city in Spain and the largest in the northwest of our country<\/strong>. In the entire northwest quadrant of Spain you will not find any more populated city until Valladolid (438 km away).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo is the second most populous city in the northern strip of Spain.<\/strong> Only Bilbao surpasses it in population within that strip.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo is the second most populated city on the western side of the Iberian Peninsula.<\/strong> It is only surpassed by Lisbon in population within that strip.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo is the largest city in Spain that is not the capital of a province<\/strong>, handily surpassing Gij\u00f3n (267,706 inhabitants) and Hospitalet (265,444 inhabitants).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo is the economic engine of Galicia.<\/strong> In 2020 the city had a GDP of 7,759 million euros, almost a billion more than La Coru\u00f1a, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europapress.es\/galicia\/noticia-siete-grandes-ciudades-concentran-447-pib-galicia-2020-20221223124653.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data from the Galician Institute of Statistics<\/a> published in December 2022.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo is home to the car factory with the highest production in Spain<\/strong>, Stellantis (previously called PSA Peugeot-Citro\u00ebn), with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elespanol.com\/motor\/20220509\/vigo-citroen-peugeot-produccion-espana-millones-vehiculos\/671183368_0.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">15 million vehicles manufactured in 2021<\/a>. Its production <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economiadigital.es\/galicia\/empresas\/stellantis-y-la-automocion-gallega-baten-su-record-historico-de-ingresos-en-plena-crisis-de-suministros.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">represents<\/a> 27.5% of Galician exports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo has the largest fishing port in Europe<\/strong> and one of the largest in the world. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vigoempresa.com\/primer-puerto-pesquero-de-europa\/#:~:text=Es%20el%20mayor%20puerto%20pesquero,supera%20los%20650.000%20metros%20c%C3%BAbicos.\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Its Berb\u00e9s fishing port employs more than 10,000 people.<\/a> It is also the headquarters of Nueva Pescanova, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlantico.net\/articulo\/economia\/iberconsa-sera-gigante-pesquero-culmina-compra-nueva-pescanova\/20230330233719976321.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the largest freezer fishing fleet in the world<\/a>, with more than 60 vessels fishing in the southern hemisphere.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vigo has the Maritime Captaincy with the most Maritime Districts in Spain<\/strong>, eight in total (according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mitma.gob.es\/marina-mercante\/capitanias-maritimas\/relacion-entre-capitanias-y-distritos-maritimos\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ministry of Transport<\/a>), surpassing the captaincies of La Coru\u00f1a (seven districts), Alicante and Santander (with six districts each).<\/li>\n<li>On the sporting front, <strong>Vigo has the only First Division football team in Galicia and in all of northwestern Spain<\/strong>, Celta de Vigo.
