Specifically there are 2,002. Of these, 1,239 have been destroyed, 106 have been damaged, 113 have been abandoned and <strong>544 tanks have been captured by the Ukrainians<\/strong>, keeping Russia the largest supplier of tanks to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Let us also remember that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/09\/27\/ukraine-vs-afghanistan-a-comparison-of-moscows-losses-in-both-invasions\/\">in the invasion of Afghanistan, the USSR lost 1,183 tanks in 10 years<\/a>, and was eventually forced to withdraw from that country, defeated. <strong>Russia is on track to double that figure in less than two years.<\/strong> It is hard to understand that there are still Russian propagandists who insist on selling this invasion as a success.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52935597673_c05d5ced6e_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">A Russian T-72B3 destroyed in Ukraine (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UAWeapons\/status\/1499384042222931971\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ukraine Weapons Tracker<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><big>Before the war, Russia had 2,840 active tanks<\/big><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2021<\/strong>, before the Russian invasion of Ukraine and according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iiss.org\/publications\/the-military-balance\/the-military-balance-2021\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\"The Military Balance 2021\"<\/a>, a comprehensive report published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), <strong>the Russian Army had 2,840 active tanks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>650 T-72B\/BA.<\/li>\n<li>850 T-72B3.<\/li>\n<li>530 T-72B3M.<\/li>\n<li>310 T-80BV\/U.<\/li>\n<li>140 T-80BVM.<\/li>\n<li>350 T-90\/T-90A.<\/li>\n<li>10 T-90M.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The serious losses suffered in Ukraine and <strong>the difficulties of the Russian industry to replace the lost tanks<\/strong> (among other reasons due to international sanctions) forced Russia to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/10\/04\/the-antiquated-t-62-tanks-that-the-russian-army-is-abandoning-on-the-kherson-front\/\">mobilize obsolete T-tanks 62<\/a> to send them to the front.
