Other constructions had a military purpose, as is the case of <strong>the Jaca Position, built under the Garden of El Capricho<\/strong>, in the Alameda de Osuna, located in the northeast of Madrid.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52992332203_61da2665de_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">v <a href=\"https:\/\/diario.madrid.es\/blog\/2017\/05\/25\/el-bunker-de-el-capricho-la-historia-que-quedaba-por-contar\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Diario de Madrid<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>This bunker began to be built in May 1937<\/strong>, using bricks and concrete to carry it out, and being designed to be watertight, against possible attacks with chemical weapons. <strong>The bunker was built in secret due to its purpose: to be the command center of General Miaja<\/strong>, president of the Madrid Defense Board and Chief of the Army of the Center of the Republican side. <strong>Situated 15 meters underground, the Jaca Position had an area of 2,000 square meters<\/strong>, and had four entrances: three to the gardens and an escape gallery that opened onto the street.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52992237605_c1dcab9f8e_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">General Miaja on the steps of the Palace of El Capricho, located next to the Jaca Position. The new bunker not only served as a command center, but also as a residence for General Miaja until 1938. <strong>Later, it was used by Colonel Segismundo Casado.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52991868496_5ffa4f5983_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">One of the galleries of the Jaca Position, currently (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comunidad.madrid\/cultura\/patrimonio-cultural\/exposicion-virtual-fortines-trincheras\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Comunidad de Madrid<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/diario.madrid.es\/blog\/2017\/05\/25\/el-bunker-de-el-capricho-la-historia-que-quedaba-por-contar\/\" report=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diario de Madrid<\/a> a few years ago, the bunker was equipped with <em>\"<strong>a water tank<\/strong> fed by one of the water pipes of the garden; <strong>a septic tank<\/strong> with evacuation pipe; <strong>a ventilation system<\/strong> through electric pumps; <strong>a power generator<\/strong> powered by diesel, and <strong>facilities for 200 people<\/strong>\".<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52991868521_20d1214379_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The facilities of the Jaca Position are preserved in good condition, as seen in this image (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/diario.madrid.es\/blog\/2017\/05\/25\/el-bunker-de-el-capricho-la-historia-que-quedaba-por-contar\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Diario de Madrid<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>Today, the bunker is open to the public<\/strong>, through guided tours for groups of up to 20 people and with prior reservation.
