This morning the news of the death of a firefighter in Saint-Denis, in the \u00cele-de-France region, near Paris, broke.<\/p>\n
The news was communicated by S\u00e9bastien Lecornu<\/a>, Minister of Defense of France, who expressed his \"sincere condolences and all my support to his family, his loved ones and his military colleagues.\"<\/em> The Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces reported<\/a> an hour and a half then the name of the deceased: Corporal Major Dorian Damelincourt, member of the Paris Sappers-Firefighters Brigade (BSPP)<\/strong>, an engineering unit of the French Army.<\/p>\n According to the French Ministry of Defense<\/a>, Damelincourt was 24 years old<\/strong>, single and childless. He was born on June 4, 1999 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, Savoy, and joined the BSPP on August 6, 2019<\/strong>. After his initial training at the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges fort, he joined the 1st Fire and Rescue Group, and more specifically the 26th Company, where he first served at the Saint-Denis rescue center, according to the BSPP has communicated<\/a>. He was commissioned a sapper first class on April 1, 2020, noting \"his exceptional commitment\"<\/strong>, and was promoted to the rank of corporal on October 1, 2021. The BSPP has thus noted his human and professional quality:<\/p>\n \"His unwavering commitment was noticed by his command, so much so that he received a congratulatory letter from his commanding officer<\/strong>, which highlighted his undeniable human and professional quality. Passionate about his profession, he constantly challenges himself himself to always progress. Loyal and very respectful towards his leaders, he is also appreciated by all his brothers in arms<\/strong>.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n He was promoted to the rank of Major Corporal on April 1, 2022, joining the La Courneuve rescue center on January 1, 2023. On February 21, 2023 \"he was congratulated for his commitment as a team leader during a violent fire in an apartment in Stains\"<\/em><\/strong>, notes the BSPP. \"The dynamism of him and his great professionalism are highlighted below.\"<\/em><\/p>\n At approximately 3:00 a.m. on July 3, the emergency services were notified of a vehicle fire in an underground parking lot of an apartment building on rue Landy, in Saint-Denis<\/strong>, a residential area with a significant presence of the Muslim community.<\/p>\n Among the firefighters who responded to the call was Corporal Major Dorian Damelincourt, from the La Courneuve rescue center. While he was fighting the fire, it spread to the floors. Damelincourt went into cardiac arrest.<\/strong> \"Rescued immediately by his comrades and then by a resuscitation ambulance on scene, he was then transported to Percy Army Training Hospital under motorized escort. Despite the efforts of medical teams to resuscitate him, he died shortly after 05:00 in the morning<\/strong>\"<\/em>, the BSPP notes.<\/p>\n Corporal Major Damelincourt had received the National Defense Medal in the bronze category<\/strong> and was also dedicated to serving the population of his native region as a volunteer firefighter within SDIS 73 of the Savoy Sappers-Firefighters, in Saint-Alban-Leysse. The BSPP has highlighted that Dorian fulfilled his commitment, faithful to the motto of the Paris firefighters: \"Save or perish\".<\/strong><\/p>\n The death of Corporal Major Damelincourt took place on the sixth night of riots in France<\/strong>, and hours after in a televised interview this Sunday afternoon, the communist deputy Jean-Luc M\u00e9lenchon <\/strong>, leader of the La France insoumise party, refuses to call for calm<\/a>.<\/p>\n My prayers for Corporal Damelincourt and my condolences to his family, friends and fellow soldiers.
