This website is published from Vigo, a city that, due to its proximity to the sea, has always felt a special devotion to the Spanish Navy.<\/p>\n

This city is often marginalized for not having more administrative rank in the territorial organization of the State other than that of a simple municipality, despite being the largest city in Galicia. Vigo is the largest city in Spain that is not the capital of a province, but at the same time it has the largest fishing port in Europe and one of the largest in the world<\/strong>. The importance of the sea in the city is enormous, and in fact, it has the Maritime Captaincy with the most Maritime Districts in Spain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At the military level, Vigo has lost all the military establishments it had in the past, except one: the Vigo Naval Command<\/a> of the Spanish Navy <\/strong>, located on Calle Arenal since 1954, and which exercises jurisdiction over the maritime province of Vigo<\/strong>. A detail, that of the existence of maritime provinces, that many Spaniards are unaware of. The red and white flag of Vigo<\/a> is, by the way, the flag created in 1845 as the password of its maritime province.<\/p>\n

Yesterday the Spanish Navy published a video recounting its raison d'\u00eatre<\/strong>, and I admit that I felt proud to see that in the almost five minutes it lasted, the video only mentions two Spanish cities: Seville<\/strong> (because it was during its reconquest, in 1248, when King Ferdinand III of Castile formed his \"Armed Fleet\", from whose name comes the current name of our naval force) and Vigo, due to its importance as a port pesquero<\/strong>, mentioned by the Navy to highlight the importance of the sea for Spain.<\/p>\n
