Forest observation towers usually have an architectural design in which functionality and low price prevail.<\/p>\n

In R\u00f5uge \u00d6\u00f6bikuoru, in the Baltic republic of Estonia, an observation tower was built in 2006.<\/strong> It was made of wood and had a very traditional look, but over the years it became unstable and was finally torn down in 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the demolition of the old watchtower, construction began on a new one, located very close to R\u00f5uge Suurj\u00e4rv<\/strong>, the deepest lake in Estonia. For the design of this new tower, they contracted with the architect Karmo T\u00f5ra, from Tallinn<\/strong>, who had a very original idea.<\/p>\n

T\u00f5ra devised a tower with a steel structure<\/strong>, more solid than the old wooden watchtower, but which would have two large viewpoints in the shape of birds' nests<\/strong>: one located on the side of the tower, with capacity for 15 people, and another on the top, with capacity for 25 people.<\/p>\n

The new tower, called Pesapuu (nest tree, in Estonian), was inaugurated on October 10, 2016<\/strong>. It is higher than the old watchtower: it measures a total of 30 meters. It was built by the company Via Betoon Eesti O\u00dc thanks to funds from the European Union.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The tower is open to the public all year round<\/strong>, and the two platforms are accessed via a spiral staircase located inside. On the upper platform there is an open dome that gives access to the stairway.<\/p>\n

The Pesapuu is visible at night<\/strong> thanks to the colored LED lights installed in the tower, both in the structure and in the upper dome and nests. The appearance of the tower is in great harmony with its surroundings<\/strong>, despite the large size of the structure.<\/p>\n
