{"id":52588,"date":"2023-08-01T21:23:22","date_gmt":"2023-08-01T19:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=52588"},"modified":"2024-08-01T01:42:03","modified_gmt":"2024-07-31T23:42:03","slug":"military-from-poland-and-the-us-pay-homage-to-the-polish-heroes-of-1944-in-an-act-in-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/08\/01\/military-from-poland-and-the-us-pay-homage-to-the-polish-heroes-of-1944-in-an-act-in-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"Military from Poland and the US pay homage to the Polish heroes of 1944 in an act in Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On August 1, 1944, at 5:00 p.m., thousands of members of the Polish resistance started an armed uprising in Warsaw.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2019\/08\/01\/warsaw-1944-when-poland-rose-against-the-third-reich-and-stalin-stand-idly-by\/\">Warsaw 1944: when Poland rose against the Third Reich ... and Stalin stand idly by<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2017\/02\/14\/armia-krajowa-75-years-ago-was-founded-the-largest-resistance-movement-of-the-ww2\/\">Armia Krajowa: the history of the greatest resistance movement of the World War II<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p><big>The largest armed uprising of World War II<\/big><\/p>\n<p>That episode of Polish heroism with the German occupation was <strong>the biggest uprising of World War II<\/strong>, carried out at the initiative of the largest resistance movement in Europe during that war, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2017\/02\/14\/armia-krajowa-75-years-ago-was-founded-the-largest-resistance-movement-of-the-ww2\/\">the Armia Krajowa (Home Army)<\/a>, which was loyal to the Polish government in exile, installed in London.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53086885276_2d31d09792_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><big>Tribute to the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising in Majadahonda<\/big><\/p>\n<p>On the occasion of this anniversary, organized by the Polish Embassy, the Polish Institute of Culture in Madrid and the Poland First to Fight Historical-Cultural Association, <strong>this afternoon a tribute to the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising was held at the Cemetery Municipal de Majadahonda<\/strong> (Madrid), in front of the tomb of Stanislaw Serdakowski \"Stasiek\", a member of the Armia Krajowa (AK, National Army). <strong>Stanislaw was sent as a prisoner of war to Germany after the defeat of the Rising.<\/strong> He moved to Spain in the late 1950s and in 1999 was awarded the Officer's Cross of Merit. <strong>He passed away in Madrid on February 23, 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53086885236_f608dfa707_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The tribute took place at 5:00 p.m., the so-called \"W hour\"<\/strong>, which began the 1944 uprising. The event was attended by representatives of the <strong> Embassy of Poland<\/strong> in Madrid and the <strong>Polish Institute of Culture <\/strong>in Madrid, as well as <strong>the Polish Defense Attach\u00e9<\/strong>, Captain Dorota Stachura, and < strong>Polish Police Liaison in Spain<\/strong>, Major Karolina Gablicka-Bak.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53086319087_1f7fb7aa9c_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Captain Mark E. Dennison, of the United States Navy<\/strong> and defense attach\u00e9 of the US Embassy in Madrid, as well as relatives of Stanislaw Serdakowski and Spanish and Polish members of the also attended the event. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polandfirsttofight.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Poland First to Fight Historical-Cultural Association<\/a>, in uniforms from the Warsaw Uprising era.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53087379928_62414b100f_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony, <strong>a Polish priest delivered a prayer<\/strong> in memory of the heroes of the Uprising. In addition, <strong>Captain Dorota Stachura gave a few words<\/strong> to remember that heroic episode of World War II. The event was attended by members of the <strong>Poland First to Fight Historical-Cultural Association<\/strong>, dressed as Polish insurgents from World War II.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53087290320_55566326c7_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This act was held in front of the grave of <strong>Lilliana Skorel Jankowski \"Dzidka\"<\/strong>. Born in the city of Toru\u0144, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship (Poland) on March 20, 1927, <strong>Lilliana was part of the Armia Krajowa as a liaison officer<\/strong> of the 6th Company \"Wawer\" of the Battalion \" Kili\u0144ski\" during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, <strong>being wounded on September 13<\/strong> of that year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53087290325_cf6ca9c37f_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The event was attended by the Consul General of Poland in Barcelona, Ilona Ka\u0142do\u0144ska<\/strong>, whom we see on these lines addressing a few words to the people who attended the tribute.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53087379853_a58d4a7601_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The General Consulate of Poland in Barcelona placed <strong>a wreath on the grave of Lilliana Skorel Jankowski<\/strong>, in homage to this Polish soldier.
