In Ukraine, the Russian invaders continue their indiscriminate attacks against civilian targets, including religious centers.<\/p>\n

After the destruction of the Orthodox Cathedral of Odesa on July 23<\/a> by the Russians, now it is the turn of a temple located in Zaporizhia<\/strong>, on the banks of the river Dnieper, in the eastern half of Ukraine. On Wednesday, Russia launched a new attack on civilian targets<\/a> which has killed three people<\/strong>. The attack has caused serious damage to residential buildings, without any military value. Ukraine's President Volodimir Zelensky has called the attack a \"war crime\"<\/a> and has branded the Russian invaders \"terrorists\".<\/p>\n

This time, the temple attacked was the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Zaporizhia<\/strong>, belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, an autocephalous church that has its patriarchate in Kiev. As reported Thursday by the Diocese of Zaporizhia in its Facebook page<\/a>, the temple was destroyed by a Russian missile<\/strong> during the invaders' attack on a residential area of the city.<\/p>\n

The Diocese of Zaporizhia indicated yesterday<\/a> that construction of this temple began in May 2003. Father Basil, its parish priest, worked on its construction:<\/strong> \"Most of these are made by my hands, all the people have seen it. And the lining, and the columns, and the fence. Not a day went by that I did not work together with the people who helped me. The doors of the temple opened on October 17, 2004.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

Father Basil declared this Thursday that he was not in the temple at the time of the attack, but was walking through a nearby park when he heard the explosion: \"a couple of minutes later, a parishioner called me and told me he said, our temple no longer exists<\/strong>.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

You can see in this post some images of the attack published by the Zaporizhia Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (here<\/a> and here<\/a> and bythe Defense Ministry of Ukraine<\/a>. One wonders what those who see Putin as a defender of Christian values<\/strong> and Moscow as a new Rome have to say about this. The facts do not stop dismantling the lies of Russian propaganda.<\/p>\n
