This new weapon was operational in September 1944. <strong> strong>A total of 5,000 V2 rockets were built, which were launched over the United Kingdom and Belgium, killing more than 7,000 people<\/strong>, as part of the campaign of terror ordered by Hitler against the allied countries, based on two types of Vergeltungswaffen or revenge weapons: the V1 flying bomb and the V2 missile.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53114482740_a67fe6b385_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">A V2 rocket ready to be fired at its mobile launch base. These mobile bases made locating and attacking the launch points of these missiles a more complicated task for the allies (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/rarehistoricalphotos.com\/v2-rocket-in-pictures\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rare Historical Photos<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>The manufacture of these weapons of revenge had to be done mainly in underground facilities <\/strong>, due to the systematic Allied bombing raids against the German armaments factories on the surface. For the construction of these underground factories and the missiles themselves, <strong>the Germans used tens of thousands of slave laborers<\/strong> brought from the occupied countries and taken from the concentration camps. Specifically, <strong>this installation was used to mix the components of the V2 fuel<\/strong>, made up of ethanol and liquid oxygen (the video is in German but it has subtitles in English, you can activate them in the bottom bar of the player):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\ud83d\ude31 Geheime unterirdische WW2 Anlage f\u00fcr V2 Raketen erkundet!\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fs_a-BsOknc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You can see below some captures of the video. <strong>The explorers access these ancient secret facilities through a long tunnel one kilometer long<\/strong>, made with bricks and slate in some of its sections. In certain parts of the tunnel there is yellowish mud and considerable water seepage.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53114563868_632a9ab875_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A document found by explorers in these underground facilities.<\/strong> It is written in a Gothic typeface, widely used by the nazis until the World War II, when they disowned it, believing it had a Jewish origin.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53114064696_510f99387b_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The cement foundations of one of the tanks where rocket fuel was mixed.<\/strong> It's chilling to think of the conditions under which such dangerous work was done in such a cramped underground facility.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53114482780_abeec06cca_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A wider tunnel, located at the end of the facility<\/strong>, in the part that would face the outside.
