The cross on his grave indicates his name in English: Andrew Pereiro, along with the date of his death, his unit, the 116th Infantry Regiment, his Division and his place of origin, New York, his city of residence in the United States (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=783785053751010&set=pcb.783785367084312\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TropaGuripa<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>Andr\u00e9s Pereiro was born in Mera, in the town of Oleiros (La Coru\u00f1a), in 1923<\/strong>, and the event that caused his departure to the United States, where his father was already working, was the outbreak of the Civil War Spanish in 1936. After the entry of the United States into World War II in December 1941, Andr\u00e9s - who changed his name to Andrew - was called up, enlisting in the 29th Infantry Division of the US Army. <strong>Andr\u00e9s died in combat in Brittany (France) on September 1, 1944<\/strong>, when he was 21 years old. He is buried in the Saint-James British-American Military Cemetery, Normandy.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@TropaGuripa\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tropa Guripa<\/a> <strong>released an excellent short film that recreates the life of Andr\u00e9s Pereiro<\/strong>.
