In 2021 we saw here the story of Andr\u00e9s Pereiro Garc\u00eda<\/a>, a Galician emigrant who went to the US with his mother and older brother.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9s' story was recovered thanks to the excellent YouTube channel<\/strong> Tropa Guripa<\/a>, dedicated to military history and which has also dedicated several videos to two other Galicians who fought in the US Army in the Western European theater of operations: Manuel Otero Mart\u00ednez<\/a> (fallen in Normandy on June 6, 1944) and Adolfo Fern\u00e1ndez Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a>, who survived the war.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9s Pereiro was born in Mera, in the town of Oleiros (La Coru\u00f1a), in 1923<\/strong>, and the event that caused his departure to the United States, where his father was already working, was the outbreak of the Civil War Spanish in 1936. After the entry of the United States into World War II in December 1941, Andr\u00e9s - who changed his name to Andrew - was called up, enlisting in the 29th Infantry Division of the US Army. Andr\u00e9s died in combat in Brittany (France) on September 1, 1944<\/strong>, when he was 21 years old. He is buried in the Saint-James British-American Military Cemetery, Normandy.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Tropa Guripa<\/a> released an excellent short film that recreates the life of Andr\u00e9s Pereiro<\/strong>. The film, with a very good staging, a fabulous script and a considerable deployment of resources, has had the collaboration of Galicia Railway Museum<\/a> and two historical recreation groups of Galicia: Northwest Paratroops GRH<\/a> and the Asociaci\u00f3n Hist\u00f3rico Cultural \"The Royal Green Jackets\"<\/a> (the video is in Spanish but has English subtitles, you can activate them in the bottom bar of the player):<\/p>\n
