Boyajian<\/strong>, from Louisiana State University, who in September 2015 <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1509.03622\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">published a study<\/a> together with other researchers in which he noted the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"Over the duration of the Kepler mission, <strong>KIC8462852 was observed to undergo irregularly shaped, aperiodic dips in flux of up to \u223c20\\%.<\/strong> The dipping activity can last for between 5 and 80 days. We characterize the object with high-resolution spectroscopy, spectral energy distribution fitting, radial velocity measurements, high-resolution imaging, and Fourier analyses of the Kepler light curve.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These fluctuations in the star's brightness led to the spread of <strong>theories about a possible alien megastructure<\/strong> that would surround that star and that would be supposedly responsible for these variations in the light emitted. <strong>Structures commonly known as Dyson Sphere<\/strong>, due to the hypothesis formulated by the physicist Freeman Dyson in 1960.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53214055745_38a12dce70_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">An artistic recreation of a Dyson Sphere (Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pxfuel.com\/es\/desktop-wallpaper-vuawa\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pxfuel<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>As of October 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/ames\/the-scientific-quest-to-explain-kepler-s-most-enigmatic-find\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NASA pointed out several hypotheses for the fluctuations of Tabby's Star<\/a>, popularly known as the diminutive of Tabetha, the name of the astronomer who observed the fluctuations. <strong>The US space agency ruled out the possibility of a Dyson Sphere:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"The internet\u2019s favorite theory to explain the strange phenomenon was that this could be a Dyson sphere\u2014a hypothetical structure built by an advanced alien civilization to collect energy from its star. However, <strong>new data from NASA\u2019s Spitzer space telescope<\/strong> and the Swift mission, along with a Belgian observatory used by amateur astronomers, <strong>provide strong evidence against such a \u201cmegastructure.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These observers were looking at <strong>another type of enigmatic behavior from Boyajian\u2019s star: a less extreme, long-term dimming<\/strong> that is also difficult to explain.
