This Saturday, December 2, an anniversary was celebrated that, despite the current critical moment in Spain, deserves to be remembered.<\/p>\n
On December 2, 2018, only four years after its founding and with the majority of the media against it, Vox reached democratic institutions for the first time, with twelve seats in the Parliament of Andalusia.<\/strong> Throughout the following year, Vox landed in other regional parliaments, in the European Parliament, in the Congress and in the Senate. Today that presence is maintained and has even expanded to other institutions<\/strong>, specifically to several municipal and regional governments. Currently Vox maintains a condition that it achieved in November 2019: being the third most voted party in Spain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In these five years, Vox has encountered difficulties that the large parties do not have<\/strong> (the Popular Party and the Socialist Party) when carrying out its work. The first and most scandalous is a wave of violence against Vox instigated from the extreme left and separatism<\/strong>. Violence that has included attacks on deputies and Vox rank-and-file members, a multitude of attacks on this party's headquarters and all types of threats against its members and supporters.<\/p>\n This campaign of violence against Vox is a demonstration of the degradation of our democracy<\/strong>, a degradation for which the same cynics who label Vox as \"fascist\" are responsible, not only lying in doing so, but also using that lie to cover up the hatred of freedom exhibited by Vox's enemies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This degradation of our democracy has also been observed in the media. In a democracy, the media are called to supervise political power<\/strong>, performing an essential function to limit the abuses of the rulers on the governed. In Spain, many media outlets have abandoned that role and have become mere puppets of the government<\/strong>, dedicating themselves to fueling the campaign of violence and harassment against Vox to the extremes of a dictatorship. This has happened since the arrival of Vox to the institutions: let us remember the case of a pro-government TV channel, La Sexta, which began to harass Vox voters in a town with a communist mayor<\/a>, in which their neighbors exhibit a clear fear of expressing their opinion freely for fear of reprisals.<\/p>\n Despite these and other difficulties, Vox has been playing an essential role in two resistance movements<\/strong> that are being essential to prevent Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government from achieving its worst wishes. The first is the movement of resistance to abuses of power<\/strong>, abuses that have met with lukewarm and insufficient opposition from the first opposition party (the Popular Party) and many media outlets. Three rulings from the Constitutional Court are due to two appeals from Vox<\/a> confirming S\u00e1nchez's abuses during the states of alarm that he imposed during the pandemic, some abuses that did not involve any resources from the Popular Party<\/strong>. If Vox did not exist, these abuses would have gone unreported.<\/p>\n To this we must add the important weight of Vox in the resistance movement against the demolition of national unity<\/strong>. This resistance has not been limited to the call for protests in the streets against S\u00e1nchez's infamous pacts with the separatists: let us remember that Vox played a fundamental role in the judicial process against the authors of the 2017 separatist coup in Catalonia<\/a>. It was thanks to Vox, in large measure, that those coup plotters were put in the dock and finally convicted.<\/p>\n Despite the loss of seats in the last general elections, Vox continues to play a fundamental role in these two resistance movements<\/strong>, as we have been seeing for weeks in its mobilization in the streets and in the institutions to stop Sanchez's coup against the rule of law at the hands of the separatists<\/a>.<\/p>\n Personally, and as a Vox voter, I want to thank Abascal and his colleagues<\/strong>, both those who continue in the institutions and those who have not repeated their positions but continue to support the party, all the efforts they have undertaken in these five years<\/strong>, and especially their commitment to the principles that they promised to defend before their voters. I know that his work, especially when he is silenced by the media, can be very thankless<\/strong>, because many people believe that what the media does not talk about does not exist. I follow the work of Vox through social networks daily and I can say that I feel proud to have been voting for this party since its foundation<\/strong>.
