However, Spain was also a country with famous privateers<\/strong>, and the most famous of all was Amaro Rodr\u00edguez Felipe de Varrios Machado Lorenzo de Castro y N\u00fa\u00f1ez de Villavicencio, better known as Amaro Pargo<\/strong>. This Spanish privateer was born in San Crist\u00f3bal de La Laguna, on the island of Tenerife, in 1678, a town where he died in 1747.
