From the moment a government allies itself with a criminal organization, these two requirements of any good government are under threat, especially if the government agrees to change the laws to benefit the criminals. criminals that he has as allies, violating our right to be treated equally before the law.

In Spain we have seen something as abnormal as a government that promotes an amnesty law to erase the crimes committed by its parliamentary allies, simply because these allies said that they would only support Sánchez's re-election in exchange for < strong>an amnesty, something openly unconstitutional, as Sánchez himself and his ministers had been saying until last summer.

But it is not enough for the government to exhibit political corruption as evident as that (because approving illegal measures to benefit friends and obtain a personal benefit in return is political corruption of the worst kind). This week, a minister from Pedro Sánchez's government has launched into criticizing a judge for continuing to fulfill his duty to prosecute crimes committed by the government's allies.

As could be expected, this new attack on judicial independence has caused <a href="https://www.poderjudicial.es/cgpj/es/Poder-Judicial/En-Portada/Declaracion-institucional-de-la-Comision-Permanente-de-19-de-enero-de-2024"" rel="noopener" target="_blank">a protest from the General Council of the Judiciary, pointing out that the minister's statements"are contrary to the principle of institutional loyalty, to the general duty to respect judicial independence inherent to a consolidated rule of law and member of the European Union, one of whose essential values is the separation of powers, essential for make the value Justice a reality, because only judges who are trusted by their fellow citizens will be able to provide the right to effective judicial protection for the prevalence of the common values of the Rule of Law.

In case the above was not enough, now the Socialist Party intends to establish a new definition of terrorism to benefit the separatists who have been prosecuted for this serious crime , which is another of the conditions set by his parliamentary allies. What will the new definition be like? Will everything that was classified as such until now be considered terrorism, except when committed by friends of the government?

The most astonishing thing about all this is seeing to what extent the left has normalized the political corruption that this amnesty implies and all its effects, including the idea that the government has the power to subdue judges at their whim to benefit their allies and prevent the crimes committed by them from being punished, which is, I repeat, an attack against equality before the law, that same equality that the left claims to have as flag.

Imagine for a moment what would happen if Pedro Sánchez's government depended on the support of drug traffickers to govern. Would we see the government twisting the laws to favor these traffickers and prevent the Police and Justice from fulfilling their duty to pursue these criminals? It is enough to look at the government's actions with the separatists to give an affirmative answer.

Of course, what is happening in Spain is a colossal scandal, only cushioned by the fact that left-wing voters swallow everything their leaders do, out of pure and simple sectarianism. They say they are democrats but in reality they have never believed in equality before the law, which is one of the pillars of democracy.

---

Photo: AFP.

One of the requirements that should be demanded of all governments of democratic countries is not to have any dependency on criminals.

[19536,10398
20536,693,2721,10641,11462
post-54585","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-we-said-yesterday","category-spain","tag-coup-against-the-rule-of-law-in-spain-2023","tag-psoe","tag-pedro-sanchez-castejon","tag-political-corruption","tag-spain
