An-124 measures 69 meters long, with a wingspan of 73.3 meters and a height of 20.8 meters. <strong>Its empty weight is 175 tons and it can carry up to 150 tons of cargo<\/strong>, in addition to 88 passengers. Due to its large size, the weight of ice that can accumulate on an An-124 could reach several tons:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"An 124-100. De icing.\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-h55czXe6FA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the radio conversation of the plane crew indicates, <strong>a Type 1 de-icing fluid with 45% water was used in the cleaning process<\/strong>. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/dwdavies.com\/product\/aircraft-de-icing-fluids\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">D.W. Davies<\/a>, this mixture is used to clear ice from the plane when the outside air temperature is around -26\u00b0C. <strong>In this case, 10,594 liters of liquid were used in the process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53487203248_1d2f0409e1_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The trucks used in this cleaning operation are from<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdf-ag.com\/unternehmen\/portground-gmbh\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PortGround GmbH<\/a>, a German company that operates at the airports of Leipzig and Dresden. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LoveBallymena\/status\/1749867316672708833\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Two days ago an An-124, UR-82029, was in Leipzig<\/a>.
