Yesterday, with the majority support of the left, the European Parliament approved the controversial \"nature restoration law.\"<\/p>\n

The European 'nature restoration' law that threatens the agricultural sector is approved: this is what each group and party voted for<\/a><\/rel>
\nFarmers' protests show lack of democracy in the European Union<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n

The European People's Party tries to erase its traces in that law<\/big><\/p>\n

Although the European People's Party has tried to dissociate itself from that law<\/a>, the reality is that , as we saw yesterday, its approval is due to the fact that a part of the MEPs of the European People's Party (EPP) supported it<\/a>, while some abstained and others did not go to vote, in sufficient numbers to facilitate its approval for the left.<\/p>\n

Ursula von der Leyen (EPP) \u201cfully\u201d supported this law in 2023<\/big><\/p>\n

To this we must add that last year, the president of The European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen (from the EPP), \"fully\" supported this law<\/a>. Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer then pointed out that this law \"is a proposal from the Commission\"<\/strong>, made up of commissioners from the EPP, the Socialists and Renew Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If a considerable part of the MEPs of the European People's Party yesterday rejected this law, it is because of the farmers' protests and the effects they may have on the European elections in June<\/strong>. But even so, a part of the EPP MEPs ignored these protests and supported the law, facilitating its approval.<\/p>\n

What this legislative madness says about river barriers<\/big><\/p>\n

Regarding this authentic legislative madness that seriously threatens the European agricultural sector<\/strong>, for the sake of an environmental fanaticism that the left has taken to irrational extremes, I remind you that the approved text of the law can be read here (in Spanish)<\/a>. There are 242 pages. On page 36 you can read one of its purposes:<\/p>\n

\"The restoration of freshwater ecosystems should include efforts to restore the natural connectivity of rivers<\/strong> as well as their riparian areas and floodplains, including through the removal of artificial barriers<\/strong>.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The text talks about \"the restoration of at least 25 000 km of free-flowing rivers<\/strong>\"<\/em>, stating that \"Member States should primarily<\/strong> address obsolete barriers, which are those that are no longer needed for renewable energy generation, inland navigation, water supply or other uses.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

Note the trap: they want us to think that only obsolete barriers are going to be eliminated, but they clarify: \"primarily\"<\/strong>, that is, that they are also going to eliminate barriers that are not obsolete and that continue to be useful. That same trick is repeated on page 107.<\/p>\n
