His intention was to restore them and give them tourist use. <strong>Ed managed to collect more than fifty trams<\/strong>, achieving the largest private collection of trams in the United States.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53605505152_6e46727ebf_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Ed Metka's streetcar collection in a photo taken on May 31, 2014 (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/55229469@N07\/14137490160\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Forsaken Fotos<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Unfortunately, <strong>vandalism and damage caused by years of being outdoors ended up ruining Ed's dream<\/strong>. His collection became known as the \"Trolley Graveyard\", <strong> an apocalyptic-looking place<\/strong> that was fascinating for photographers, urban explorers and the curious in general.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53605505162_8b62cec607_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Ed gathered more than fifty trams in this place (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/55229469@N07\/14300964646\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Forsaken Fotos<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>However, <strong>in 2023, upon turning 85, Ed decided to sell what was left of his collection<\/strong>, partly to museums and private collectors, and partly to be scrapped, as some of the trams are in very bad condition. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/pabucketlist.com\/peer-behind-the-gates-of-the-windber-trolley-graveyard\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pabucketlist.com<\/a>, the forecast was that in November 2023 the cemetery would no longer exist.
