This condition of investigation was known to the Spaniards a few days ago, but Sánchez found out on April 24, the day he published his famous letter to take five days off, and he said nothing. When on May 17 Sánchez said that "there is no case", he was lying: yes there was and he knew it. And knowing it, he made a theatrical farce to present himself as a victim, attack judges and the media , mobilize his followers and not give any explanation.

A new letter with more victimhood and more attacks on judges, media and opposition

Yesterday, after learning of the court summons to his wife, Sánchez published a second letter which is more of the same: more victimhood, more attacks on Justice and the media and also attacks on the opposition. Sánchez has already wasted several opportunities to give explanations about this scandal, backed by journalistic information that is serious enough to have given rise to a judicial investigation, no matter how much he tries to ridicule this case judicial labeling it as "mud", which is what it has been doing for weeks.

Sánchez shows ignorance of basic democratic principles

With his two letters, Sánchez demonstrates ignorance of some basic principles in a democratic society:

That we are all equal before the law and are equally subject to current legislation. He and his wife are not above the law.

That Justice is independent and is not obliged to obey supposed unwritten rules that, according to him, would force it to pause its activity in an electoral campaign, as if Justice had to adapt to the conveniences of the politicians.

That Justice does not judge anyone by their family ties, but by their actions. This shows ignorance when he states: "They do it because he is my partner."

In the face of this scandal, Sánchez is making an exhibition of demagoguery and victimhood. It is a very bad sign. In a democratic society, we are all innocent until proven guilty, as is your wife. When a person is accused of two possible crimes, the logical and intelligent thing is for them to refute the accusations </ strong>, offering explanations that deny the indications that they may have committed the crimes for which they are being investigated.

He resorts to the ad hominem fallacy in the absence of good arguments for his defense

Sánchez has not done that. Sánchez does not give any explanation. Sánchez does not defend his wife against the facts of which he is accused, and this indicates that perhaps he does not have a basis for a good defense. Furthermore, appealing to the fact that she is his wife to present her as The victim is especially clumsy: precisely one of the crimes for which his wife is being investigated stems from the possibility of having used her privileged position as the wife of the president of the government to her advantage. We would not be talking about a possible crime of influence peddling if she were just any citizen.

Instead, Sánchez has resorted to one of the clumsiest arguments: the ad hominem fallacy. This fallacy consists of discrediting someone to deny that they are right when stating something. In this case, Sánchez presents the complainants as "far-right" or "pseudo-media" to deny the facts they denounce, instead of denying the facts themselves. It is as stupid a strategy as it would be to affirm that A certain person does not tell the truth because they are ugly, because they like romantic movies or because they are a vegetarian.

An attempt to coerce Justice

Obviously, Sánchez is not stupid enough to believe that such an argument is rationally valid. What he does know is that these kinds of fallacies are usually accepted by people with a low intellectual level. Sánchez has assumed that many of his followers are not very smart and sends them messages that are based on that perception. He is surely not wrong in many cases: after all, the PSOE has been degrading the level of education in Spain, perhaps because he believes that the more uneducated the Spaniards are, the more chances of success the socialist charlatans have.

Thus, Sánchez is not designing a defense strategy that can free his wife from the crimes for which she is being investigated, perhaps because he is more cornered by this case than many of us imagine. In the absence of good judicial arguments, what Sánchez is trying to do is create an environment hostile to Justice, to coerce the judge so that he does not dare to act against his wife . It is a temptation that many rulers have even in democratic countries, countries that are never free from suffering someone willing to abuse their power.

---

Photo: PSOE.

This Tuesday, it was learned that the Investigative Court No. 41 of Madrid has called Begoña Gómez to testify as under investigation on July 5.

[19536,10398
21654,2721,10641,11462
post-56115","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-we-said-yesterday","category-spain","tag-begona-gomez","tag-pedro-sanchez-castejon","tag-political-corruption","tag-spain
