{"id":56199,"date":"2024-06-13T20:06:17","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T18:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=56199"},"modified":"2025-06-13T00:07:54","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T22:07:54","slug":"nato-explains-the-interception-flights-of-its-fighters-coordinated-in-part-from-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/06\/13\/nato-explains-the-interception-flights-of-its-fighters-coordinated-in-part-from-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"NATO explains the interception flights of its fighters, coordinated in part from Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Europe is experiencing a new Cold War which, like the previous one, has one of its main fronts in our airspace.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/11\/20\/e-7a-wedgetail-the-new-radar-aircraft-chosen-by-nato-to-replace-its-e-3-sentry\/\">E-7A Wedgetail, the new radar aircraft chosen by NATO to replace its E-3 Sentry<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/10\/06\/an-airman-shows-the-interior-of-the-e-3-sentry-the-sophisticated-radar-aircraft-operated-by-nato\/\">An airman shows the interior of the E-3 Sentry, the sophisticated radar aircraft operated by NATO<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>four fronts<\/strong> in which these interception missions are carried out in a regular way:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Baltic Sea<\/strong>, due to the regular transit of Russian aircraft to and from the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, often bordering the airspace of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland, but also <a href=\"https:\/\/outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/03\/31\/russian-military-planes-violated-swedish-airspace-carrying-nuclear-weapons\/\">violating the airspace of Sweden even carrying nuclear weapons<\/a>, as happened two years ago, before that country joined NATO.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Black Sea<\/strong>, where Russian military flights can pose a threat to NATO countries in that region (Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The North Atlantic<\/strong>, where Russian military flights from the Kola Peninsula may pose a threat to the airspace of Norway, Denmark (through the Faroe Islands and Greenland), Iceland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Canada and the United States.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Bering Strait and the Arctic Circle<\/strong>, where Russian flights could be a threat to the airspace of the United States and Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51300920974_b83bc2017c_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">A Sukhoi Su-24 \"Fencer\" attack aircraft of the Russian Air Force photographed by a Spanish EF-18M from the 15th Wing deployed in Lithuania in 2021 (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EMADmde\/status\/864482250594947072\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Estado Mayor de la Defensa<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Currently, <strong>the Baltic Sea is the most active area of \u200b\u200bRussian air raids violating international aviation standards<\/strong>, with frequent flights in which Russian planes have their transponders turned off and without communicating their flight plan to the civil air controls. <strong>This forces fighters from other allied countries to be deployed in the small Baltic republics<\/strong>, since they lack their own combat aircraft.
