Although some of the parts can be brought from Spain, it is not always feasible to do so. For this, there are <strong>ABDR (Aircraft Battle Damage Repair) procedures<\/strong>, the purpose of which is to return an aircraft to operational status at a certain level of capacity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53890729337_f3baba4831_h.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the Pacific Skies deployment, <a href=\"https:\/\/ejercitodelaire.defensa.gob.es\/EA\/ejercitodelaire\/es\/noticias\/noticia\/El-Ejercito-del-Aire-y-del-Espacio-pionero-en-la-fabricacion-aditiva-de-componentes-aeronauticos-para-despliegues\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Spanish Air Force is testing this procedure<\/a>, after developing <em>\"<strong>the additive manufacturing capacity for aeronautical components for deployments<\/strong>, which allows, in a remotely assisted manner, to obtain in a short time the necessary parts to replace damaged aircraft components.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53891981374_cc08823825_h.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To prevent any of its aircraft from being grounded due to a part for which a replacement is not available at the deployment site, <strong>the Spanish Air Force carries a FAMU (Forward Advanced Manufacturing Unit)<\/strong>, which consists of <em>\"a deployable container containing the equipment necessary to complete <strong>the manufacturing process of an aeronautical component: scanning the damaged part, its 3D printing<\/strong>, application of heat treatment and machining. FAMU has been configured with technology from the company MELTIO through the collaboration of the Air and Space Force with Novaindef.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53891644981_9a0e61e776_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This Monday, <strong>the Spanish Air Force published a video showing how this procedure is used<\/strong> to manufacture spare parts and certify them for use in aircraft during a deployment (the video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"El EA, pionero en la Fabricaci\u00f3n Aditiva de componentes aeron\u00e1uticos para despliegues \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddf8\ud83e\udee1\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UDON18rPKlA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the Air Force unit in charge of this task of manufacturing spare parts during the Pacific Skies deployment is the <strong>Maestranza A\u00e9rea de Albacete (MAESAL)<\/strong>, the most important of the three Air Force maintenance and repair centres (the other two are in Madrid and Seville).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53890729377_e07222d504_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The FAMU container developed by MAESAL is a pioneer in the world of military aviation<\/strong> and is supported by the Military Design Organization of the Logistics Support Command and the Defense Airworthiness Authority. <em>\"<strong>This advance not only allows a rapid and efficient response in operational deployments, but also guarantees maximum safety and reliability<\/strong>, since the manufactured parts have the airworthiness certificate.
