The majority of its population is Muslim. Its top leader is the Islamist Ramzan Kadyrov, a staunch supporter of Putin. During this trip, <strong>Putin has visited a new mosque in Grozny<\/strong>. On its official website, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240820223927\/http:\/\/kremlin.ru\/events\/president\/news\/74905\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Kremlin announced in a caption<\/a>: <em>\"<strong>Vladimir Putin presented the mosque with a Quran<\/strong> decorated with gold ornaments and inlaid with precious stones\"<\/em>. <strong>The Kremlin has only published this photo in which Putin looks at this Koran<\/strong>, but has omitted another more relevant moment:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53940243126_ae1f72df55_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Chechen website <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/groznyinform\/38162\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grozny Inform<\/a> posted a full video of the event on Telegram. According to the outlet, the Mufti of the Chechen Republic, Salah-Hadzhi Mezhiev, read a sentence from the Quran. In addition, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grozny-inform.ru\/news\/politic\/163665\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its website<\/a> the Chechen media outlet has posted this photo showing <strong>Putin posing with the Quran <\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53940708805_428afa7ea1_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although the Kremlin has hidden this gesture (it does not appear anywhere on its website), the video of Putin kissing the Koran <a href=\"https:\/\/en.mehrnews.com\/news\/219987\/VIDEO-Putin-kisses-holy-Quran-in-Chechen-mosque\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has also been spread by the Iranian Mehr agency<\/a>, which has highlighted the Russian dictator's kiss to the sacred book of Islam in the title of its news.
