{"id":57196,"date":"2024-09-23T21:27:20","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T19:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=57196"},"modified":"2025-09-23T00:10:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T22:10:19","slug":"the-deployment-of-the-cervus-anti-drone-system-of-the-raaa-71-of-the-spanish-army-in-slovakia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/09\/23\/the-deployment-of-the-cervus-anti-drone-system-of-the-raaa-71-of-the-spanish-army-in-slovakia\/","title":{"rendered":"The deployment of the Cervus anti-drone system of the RAAA 71 of the Spanish Army in Slovakia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drones are revolutionizing the world of military operations today, and defending against them is a major challenge.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/04\/06\/sirtap-the-unmanned-aircraft-developed-by-spain-and-colombia-for-military-purposes\/\">SIRTAP, the unmanned aircraft developed by Spain and Colombia for military purposes<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/11\/15\/spain-will-have-its-first-unmanned-aerial-vehicles-armed-with-hellfire-missiles\/\">Spain will have its first unmanned aerial vehicles armed with Hellfire missiles<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>To meet this challenge, <strong>a Spanish company, TRC, developed Cervus, a 100% Spanish system<\/strong> that can be used to detect aerial drones as well as land vehicles. The most recent version of this system, the Cervus III, integrates <strong>a 3D radar and electro-optical and radio-frequency sensors, in addition to the use of artificial intelligence<\/strong> to identify potential threats.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54016581906_a04a33c555_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Initially, this system was operated by the <strong>31st Electronic Warfare Regiment (REW 31)<\/strong>, based in El Pardo (Madrid), a unit that contributed to the development process of the Cervus program. <strong>Currently, this system is operated by the 71st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment (RAAA 71)<\/strong>, based in the Fuencarral \"Capitan Guiloche\" Artillery Barracks, also in Madrid. This Regiment has been designated by the Army's Land Force Headquarters (FUTER) as the <strong>C-UAS (counter-unmanned aerial systems) reference and preparation unit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54017010645_7de5a50f87_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Cervus I system has already been deployed by the Spanish Army in Mali, while the Cervus II was deployed two years ago in Latvia. Last Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NATO.MN.BG.SVK\/posts\/pfbid0kCbrJDEgmWH3czDpbB4GvKggVYZ7SnpjRF1MXDQCkuL7ye8Kw7ntq49rvVdExBMEl\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NATO's Battle Group in Slovakia showed photos of the deployment of the Cervus system in that country<\/a>, noting that <em>\"<strong>is designed to neutralize drone threats and protect our skies.<\/strong> With advanced technology and precision, we ensure a safe and secure environment. Always vigilant, always ready.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54016908329_1614755213_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to TRC, <a href=\"https:\/\/trc.es\/nueva-incorporacion-del-sistema-cervus-iii-en-el-ejercito-de-tierra-espanol\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the RAAA 71 incorporated the Cervus III system at the beginning of this year<\/a>. The Spanish company highlights the following: <em>\"<strong>The Cervus III uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve precision in the detection and neutralization of enemy drones.<\/strong> Thanks to these technologies, the system can operate with minimal human intervention, optimizing speed and effectiveness in decision-making. In addition, <strong>it incorporates processing capabilities integrated into Escribano's Oteos cameras<\/strong>, allowing a rapid and efficient response to aerial threats.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54017010535_83ec9037e0_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this image we can see <strong>the two VAMTAC vehicles carrying this anti-drone system<\/strong>, during their deployment in Slovakia with the RAAA 71.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54015674297_756efbbb9d_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First we see <strong>the 3D radar mounted on a VAMTAC S3<\/strong>, a radar developed by the Spanish company ART and which has a detection range of up to 10 kilometers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54016908354_e1c2f674f4_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here we see <strong>the command and control vehicle, a VAMTAC ST5 BN3<\/strong> equipped with more detection systems. Specifically, at the rear of the vehicle we see two masts. <strong>The mast on the left carries the Oteos electro-optical system<\/strong>, with a range of up to 20 kilometres and developed by the Spanish company Escribano Mechanical & Engineering. <strong>The one on the right carries the signal inhibitors<\/strong>, which serve to disable the drones. These inhibitors have been developed by the Spanish company ATL Europa. The masts have been developed by the Spanish company Hispamast.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54016803948_fb71935dc3_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, here we see <strong>the entire Cervus system covered with camouflage nets<\/strong>, to make it difficult for enemy drones to detect it.
