Today marks one year since Hamas's terrorist attack against Israel, and today the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has referred to it.<\/p>\n

This Monday, the newspaper El Mundo publishes an interview<\/a> with the leader of the third most voted party in Spain. You can read the full interview here.<\/a> In it, the interviewer asks the president of Vox what his position is on the Ukraine War. Abascal responds: \"It is very clear: condemnation of Russian aggression. It has been the position we have always maintained.<\/strong>\"<\/em> It should be remembered that Vox already expressed its support for Ukraine<\/a> during the Russian troop buildup prior to the invasion, and has continued to do so now.<\/p>\n

In May 2024, Abascal criticized Pedro S\u00e1nchez for not expelling the Russian ambassador to Spain<\/a> after Putin's aggression against Ukraine, and pointed out that \"Russia's ability to invade Ukraine has to do with the policy of the socialists and popular parties in the European Union,<\/strong> with the policy of energy dependence that has weakened the European Union and left it at the mercy of Putin and Russia. S\u00e1nchez's Spain is the country that buys the most gas from Russia in the European Union:<\/strong> 5.2 billion cubic meters from January to September.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

On the other hand, in the interview published by El Mundo he also refers to the war in the Middle East:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"We have spoken very clearly about Israel's right to defend itself. We believe that Israel has been the victim of the worst terrorist attacks in human history<\/strong>. And we understand that a state has not only the right, but the duty to defend itself against such an attack.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After an interviewer asks if the right to defense has any limits, Abascal answers: \"It has the limit of proportionality and Israel is the army that gives the most notice of where it is going to bomb<\/strong>. I think we should put ourselves in their shoes. We should put ourselves in the shoes of the Israelis who are constantly being bombed<\/strong>, who have been victims of the attacks on October 7, and see what we would do in that circumstance.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

As a Spaniard who has been supporting the cause of Ukraine and the cause of Israel, I thank Santiago Abascal for the clarity of his support for these two countries<\/strong>, which are defending not only their existence against attacks on their territory and their citizens: both Ukraine and Israel are today on the front line of the defense of Western civilization against barbarism<\/strong>, a barbarism that is reflected in the atrocious crimes committed by the Russian army on Ukrainian soil and in the atrocious crimes committed by Hamas against the people of Israel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
