Yesterday it became clear once again that Spain has a government with no moral scruples, which will do anything to cling to power.<\/p>\n
Without anyone noticing - neither the opposition nor the media - and without reporting it<\/strong>, in September the S\u00e1nchez government slipped two changes into the law on the exchange of criminal record information<\/a>. These were two changes that had nothing to do with that law, using a practice of parliamentary filibustering that S\u00e1nchez has been practising for years.<\/strong><\/p>\n In this case, the government used the transposition of a European directive to introduce a reduction in sentences for ETA prisoners<\/strong>. A reduction in sentences previously agreed with Bildu, heirs of ETA and allies of the government. The government omitted any reference to this reduction in sentences in the information it published<\/a> on the transposition of this directive. A trap into which the PP and Vox fell<\/strong>, since both opposition parties supported this transposition without realizing the changes that the government had introduced on the fly. Changes that would reduce the sentences of 41 ETA terrorists.<\/strong><\/p>\n What has happened shows that this government completely lacks principles, shame and morals<\/strong>, and that its only concern is that S\u00e1nchez remains in power at any price, destroying the rule of law, attacking judicial independence, harassing free media and agreeing on favors with ETA in exchange for the support of its political arm, in a new outrage to the victims of that terrorist group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The opposition has dealt with its mistake in a very uneven way. Vox has publicly apologized to its voters<\/a>, acknowledging the mistake made. No apology has been read on the PP's communication channels<\/strong>, and Feij\u00f3o has limited himself to apologizing privately to the AVT<\/a> (Association of Victims of Terrorism), without directing any message to his voters. Unfortunately, even if this reform can now be defeated in the Senate, its final approval will depend exclusively on the government<\/strong>, since it has the support of its separatist and far-left allies to approve it in Congress.<\/p>\n What happened should serve as a lesson to the PP and Vox.<\/strong> Nothing that this government does can be supported without having previously examined it very carefully. When in doubt, it is better to abstain or vote against anything presented by the government,<\/strong> no matter how nice the disguise under which it is presented. I hope that both parties carefully review the procedures they follow when reviewing the texts they vote on in Congress, because a mistake like this should not be repeated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
