Madrid was the scene of a new mass protest today against the government of Pedro S\u00e1nchez, in the midst of a wave of corruption scandals.<\/p>\n

The protest, called by dozens of civil associations grouped in the Platform for Constitutional Spain, has served to denounce the abuses and corruption of the coalition government of socialists and communists headed by S\u00e1nchez,<\/strong> which has unleashed a series of attacks against judicial independence and freedom of the press in the midst of scandals that already affect S\u00e1nchez's family environment, his government, his party and the attorney general appointed by the government<\/a>, charged this week with an alleged crime of revealing secrets.<\/p>\n

As usual, the government and its affiliated media have focused their efforts on downplaying the importance of the demonstration<\/strong>, giving a ridiculous estimate of attendance (which is usual when the socialists govern in Spain and there are protests against them). Political support for this call has been rather uneven<\/strong>. Although the Popular Party officially supported the demonstration, neither its president, Alberto N\u00fa\u00f1ez Feij\u00f3o, nor the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel D\u00edaz Ayuso<\/strong> attended it, following what already seems to be a PP tradition that its leaders do not attend demonstrations if they are not called by the PP. In this case, the party sent a delegation headed by Carmen F\u00fanez<\/strong>, its deputy secretary of organization, a person with a lower media profile than the aforementioned PP leaders.<\/p>\n
