Trampling on the right to the presumption of innocence has consequences that can backfire on those who attack that right.<\/p>\n
Today, communist MP \u00cd\u00f1igo Errej\u00f3n<\/strong>, spokesman for the far-left coalition Sumar (Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government partner) in Congress, has announced his resignation and retirement from politics<\/a>. He has done so by issuing a statement<\/a> in which he alleges the following for making this decision: \"The pace and way of life on the political front line for a decade has worn down my physical health, my mental health<\/strong>, and my emotional and affective structure.\"<\/em><\/p>\n However, messages on social networks have come to light denouncing Errej\u00f3n's alleged behaviour with some women<\/a>. These are unconfirmed rumours that Sumar has launched an investigation into. It must be said that there is no record of any complaint against the communist deputy<\/strong> for this alleged behaviour with several women. Only messages on social networks.<\/p>\n I have been very clear for years that a mere complaint does not constitute any evidence, and a rumour or a message on a social network even less so<\/strong>. I do not give any credibility to a complaint without evidence, and even less to rumours that are spread over the Internet, rumours that can cause a lot of damage even if they are false.<\/p>\n For years we have been suffering from a wave of feminist McCarthyism that attacks the right to the presumption of innocence of every man<\/strong>, assuming that any accusation by a woman is presumed to be true and should automatically serve to convict the accused. This way of persecuting a person should disgust any democrat, but unfortunately this phenomenon has spread greatly due to the support of the extreme left, including Errej\u00f3n himself.<\/strong><\/p>\n In 2017, the then communist leader of Podemos posted a message with the hashtag #YoS\u00edTeCreo<\/a> (I do believe you), demanding \"legislation that is up to par, that protects victims of sexual violence instead of questioning them<\/strong>.\"<\/em> It was the beginning of that wave of feminist McCarthyism against the presumption of innocence. In 2021, using the same hashtag, Errej\u00f3n showed his support for Roc\u00edo Carrasco<\/a>, a television presenter, stating the following:<\/p>\n \"Roc\u00edo Carrasco denounced gender-based violence yesterday. A testimony of abuse that many will question.<\/strong> Just like they did with Ana Orantes. Just like they have done with so many women. That is why feminism is so necessary.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
