This Friday, Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam also joined that organization.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2024\/10\/1533751\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the chronicle published by the UN<\/a>, Guterres said the following in his speech at that BRICS meeting: <em>\"<strong>We need peace in Ukraine.<\/strong> A just peace in line with the United Nations Charter, international law and the resolutions of the General Assembly.\"<\/em> <strong>He had there the dictators of the two countries that began the aggression against Ukraine on February 24, 2022,<\/strong> Vladimir Putin (Russia) and his ally Aleksandr Lukashenko (Belarus), <strong>but Guterres was unable to ask them to withdraw from Ukraine,<\/strong> a sovereign and independent country that they have invaded in an openly illegal and unprovoked manner.<\/p>\n<p><big>Guterres shook Putin's hand and bowed his head to him<\/big><\/p>\n<p>As if his attendance at an event organised in Russia and his lukewarm reference to the invasion of Ukraine were not enough, <strong>Guterres had no qualms about shaking Putin's hand<\/strong>, as shown in this video released by the Kremlin through <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/news_kremlin_eng\/4482\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its Telegram channel<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"665\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Putin and UN secretary general Guterres held a meeting in a closed format in Kazan <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/52caCYyl4U\">https:\/\/t.co\/52caCYyl4U<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/77LRcEtO8k\">pic.twitter.com\/77LRcEtO8k<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Liveuamap (@Liveuamap) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Liveuamap\/status\/1849540856031703179?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 24, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>Guterres had no problem giving Putin a photo of this handshake<\/strong>, even though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/mundo\/noticias-internacional-64994207\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against the Russian dictator<\/a> for war crimes in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54093745616_c264c8b7e5_k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54093745616_cbaeaf11e9_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Moreover, and as shown on <a href=\"https:\/\/photo-summit.brics-russia2024.ru\/en\/story\/list_351209441\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the official website of this BRICS meeting<\/a> (with photos taken by the Russian state media Sputnik), during the joint photo of the international leaders who attended the event, <strong>Guterres again greeted Putin, even bowing his head before this criminal dictator:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54093998533_ece20ff2ee_6k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54093998533_ca64dec0ab_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kremlin must have been so pleased with this image that it has published this enlargement<\/strong> on the aforementioned website of this BRICS meeting:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54094078939_90e52ea094_4k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54094078939_30b18c84a2_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><big>Guterres' shameful embrace of dictator Lukashenko<\/big><\/p>\n<p>As if he had not already had an infamous attitude towards the Russian dictator, <strong>Guterres starred in this affectionate embrace with the dictator Lukashenko<\/strong>, who has been ruling in Belarus for decades without free elections and repressing any protest from the democratic opposition:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"665\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Welcoming hugs of the UN Secretary-General Guterres and dictator Lukashenko.<\/p>\n<p>I saw that just as explosions were heard in Kyiv from a Russian drone attack.<\/p>\n<p>This world is just going insane.<\/p>\n<p>However, we are at war, and emotions often need to be put to the side. Supporting the\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/j66NJJ0bfz\">https:\/\/t.co\/j66NJJ0bfz<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dCy6HpYc2E\">pic.twitter.com\/dCy6HpYc2E<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Anton Gerashchenko (@Gerashchenko_en) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Gerashchenko_en\/status\/1849894412601655497?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 25, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><big>Ukraine's government vetoes Guterres' visit to the country<\/big><\/p>\n<p><strong>Guterres\u2019 attitude has understandably angered Ukraine.<\/strong> The UN secretary-general had intended to visit the country after stopping in Russia, but <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/zelensky-reportedly-rejects-un-secretarys-visit-to-ukraine-due-to-his-kazan-summit-participation\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected Guterres\u2019 visit.<\/a> The Ukrainian government has criticised <em>\"the humiliation of sanity and international law in Kazan\"<\/em>, in a rebuke to the UN secretary-general.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/V_Zelenskiy_official\/12173\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zelensky, without citing Guterres but in a veiled allusion to him, said<\/a>: <em>\"It's not just about Ukraine. Today, on the International Day of the United Nations, it is especially necessary to say so. To say so when <strong>the goal for which the UN was created is not defended by the UN Security Council or even by UN officials<\/strong>, but by cooperation formats such as the Crimean Platform or the Peace Summit. And <strong>I would like to remind the international bureaucracy and political leaders that today is United Nations Day all over the world, not somewhere in Kazan<\/strong>.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><big>Ukrainian government adviser harshly criticises Guterres<\/big><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/opinion\/41099\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an article published by the Kyiv Post<\/a>, Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian government, wrote under the title: <em>\"<strong>Guterres Disgraced Himself and Made a Mockery of the UN at the BRICS Summit<\/strong>.\"<\/em> Gerashchenko notes the following about what happened at that meeting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"<strong>Not once did Guterres condemn Russia's war against Ukraine.
