The town of Nigr\u00e1n, on the southern shore of the Vigo Estuary, is one of my favourite areas of Galicia since my earliest childhood.<\/p>\n

Nigr\u00e1n is known for its fine sandy beaches.<\/strong> The most famous ones are Patos beach<\/a>, Playa Am\u00e9rica<\/a> and Panj\u00f3n<\/a>, which is my favorite. In addition, from the Monteferro<\/strong> peninsula you can enjoy magnificent views, as well as visit the \"Faro de los Muertos\"<\/a> (that is, the Monument to the Universal Navy) and the guns of Battery J-3<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Hidden on the south side of the isthmus of the Monteferro peninsula there is a very nice beach<\/strong> that is not as well known as the ones I have mentioned. I took these photos there on December 7th.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This small beach is called Area Fofa<\/strong> (i.e. soft sand). It is in the parish of Panj\u00f3n, next to Madorra beach.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fofa Area measures about 134 meters if we only count the sand,<\/strong> although there is a reef area next to it that extends 97 meters further. It is an ideal place to see the sunsets in winter,<\/strong> when the sun sets further south than in summer.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

From this beach there are good views of the small peninsula that separates the beaches of Panj\u00f3n and Madorra<\/strong>, looking southeast.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On the eastern side of the beach there is a private property<\/strong> that has access to the beach via stone stairs.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

From Area Fofa you can clearly see<\/strong> the Cabezo de San Juan beacon<\/a>, located 1.25 kilometres away, in the middle of Bayona Bay.<\/p>\n

In summer there are quite a few people on this beach<\/strong>, but in winter, as you can see, it is not very crowded. The day I took the photos was cold and the only user of this beach was this seagull that seemed to be thinking about the meaning of life while looking at the landscape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
