There are even monuments to Jesus in places as remote as South Korea (Wolmyeongdong) and Indonesia (a country with a Muslim majority but which has three monuments to Christ).<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54209234494_e05413378c_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The \u015awiebodzin monument in the middle of a snowy landscape on January 16, 2013 (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/grzegorek\/8416894719\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrzej<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>Polish Catholic priest Sylwester Zawadzki<\/strong> was the main promoter of Poland's eventual elevation on the world map of great monuments to Christ. <strong>Father Zawadzki was appointed parish priest of the Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland in \u015awiebodzin<\/strong>, in the diocese of Zielona G\u00f3ra-Gorz\u00f3w (western Poland), in July 1981, a few months before the communist dictatorship decreed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2021\/12\/13\/the-light-of-freedom-the-anti-communist-resistance-in-poland-under-martial-law\/\">Martial Law, which unleashed a wave of repression<\/a> against the pro-democracy protests of the Catholic trade union Solidarno\u015b\u0107. <strong>Father Zawadzki was actively involved in the protests by organising patriotic masses,<\/strong> when something like this could have cost him his life, as demonstrated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2018\/10\/19\/popieluszko-the-torture-and-murder-of-the-polish-martyr-at-the-hands-of-communism\/\">the murder of the priest Jerzy Popie\u0142uszko in 1984<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54208096457_d049b43a5a_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">A frontal image of Christ the King in \u015awiebodzin taken on April 21, 2012 (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mr172\/7102421145\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>In 2000, Father Zawadzki began promoting the construction of a monument to Christ the King,<\/strong> with the aim of making one that would be larger than the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/11\/04\/the-christ-the-redeemer-of-corcovado-in-some-impressive-birds-eye-views\/\">Christ the Redeemer of Corcovado<\/a> in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which measures 38 meters, and the Christ of the Concord of Cochambamba, Bolivia, which measures 40.4 meters. <strong>The Polish sculptor Miros\u0142aw Kazimierz Patecki was in charge of the design of the statue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54208996466_dbbc6de254_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The crown is 3 meters high, one for each year of Christ's public life (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/pl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plik:Christ_the_King_Statue_1.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rzuwig<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Unlike other large monuments, <strong>Christ the King in \u015awiebodzin was built entirely with private donations<\/strong> from various countries around the world. The work began with the construction of a 16.5-metre-high mound made of stones and rubble. <strong>Father Zawadzki wanted the numbers on this monument to have a meaning.<\/strong> The pedestal is divided into five rings, representing the five continents. <strong>The statue would be 33 metres high<\/strong>, one for each year of Jesus\u2019 life, and would be crowned with <strong>a 3-metre-high golden crown<\/strong>, one for each year of the Messiah\u2019s public activity. In total, <strong>the whole would be 52 metres high, making it the largest monument to Christ in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54208096447_b53f3f6251_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">At 52 metres high, the Christ the King in \u015awiebodzin is considered the largest monument to Jesus in the world (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Christ_the_King_Statue_in_\u015awiebodzin_02.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dominikosaurus<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>After years of planning and construction, <strong>the monument to Christ the King in \u015awiebodzin was unveiled on 21 November 2010<\/strong> and consecrated by the then Bishop of Zielona G\u00f3ra-Gorz\u00f3w, Monsignor Stefan Regmunt. <strong>The statue is made of meshed concrete<\/strong>, is white in colour and is estimated to weigh 440 tonnes. Like the Christ the King in \u015awiebodzin, <strong>the Christ the King in \u015awiebodzin has his hands raised<\/strong>, giving him a majestic appearance. During its consecration, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20101126165215\/http:\/\/wiadomosci.gazeta.pl\/Wiadomosci\/1,80273,8694823,_Chrystus_Krolem_Wszechswiata___Poswiecono_figure.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Monsignor Regmunt stated<\/a>: <em>\"<strong>The monument is a visible sign of faith in Christ<\/strong>\"<\/em>.
