I have been talking here for many years about the natural gems that can be found in the Spanish town of Nigr\u00e1n (Pontevedra).<\/p>\n

Estelas Islands, an uninhabited Spanish archipelago and a sunken ship close to it<\/a><\/rel>
\nArea Fofa beach, a little gem in the south of the Monteferro peninsula, in Galicia<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n

I spent a large part of my childhood in this beautiful corner of Galicia and today I like to visit it whenever I can. One of my favorite places in this municipality is the Monte Lourido peninsula<\/strong>, where I have even found squirrels<\/a> on the walk that runs along this place.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In its southern area there are beautiful views of the estuary of the Mi\u00f1or River,<\/strong> the river that bathes the towns of Gondomar, Nigr\u00e1n and Bayona.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I was there this afternoon. It was an ideal day for taking photos<\/strong>, with the sky almost clear but with some bands of fog crowning the nearby peaks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For the first time I went down to a beach whose name I have not been able to find<\/strong> (if it can be considered a beach). It is located at the end of a slope that goes down from the promenade, at the height of the entrance to the Atobeira Tennis Club.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

There is a shed on this small beach<\/strong> and some kayaks, canoes and boats. I don't know if anyone comes here to sunbathe. The sand is very coarse.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The scenery is spectacular. In the background you can see Ladeira beach in Bayona<\/strong>, and the Bayona Playa campsite.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This area of \u200b\u200bthe estuary of the Mi\u00f1or River, the closest to its mouth, is known as the Foz (mouth, in Galician)<\/strong>, due to the turn the river makes from north to south around the tip of Ladeira.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this place already has a long curse: pollution,<\/strong> which has been preventing shellfish gathering in this area for years. In fact, local media often refer to this place with the word \"sewer\"<\/a>, due to this problem. Who would have thought seeing these images, taken at high tide, right? Hopefully one day this area will be able to recover from this evil that afflicts it.<\/p>\n
