{"id":58440,"date":"2025-01-19T21:56:14","date_gmt":"2025-01-19T20:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=58440"},"modified":"2026-01-19T03:09:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T02:09:39","slug":"ramp-surfing-aboard-a-c-17-aircraft-in-one-of-the-scenarios-of-top-gun-maverick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/19\/ramp-surfing-aboard-a-c-17-aircraft-in-one-of-the-scenarios-of-top-gun-maverick\/","title":{"rendered":"'Ramp surfing' aboard a C-17 aircraft in one of the scenarios of 'Top Gun Maverick'"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Flying in an airplane is one of the most exciting experiences a person can have, and if the plane is military, even more so.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/04\/a-flight-to-antarctica-on-a-united-states-air-force-c-17-aircraft-seen-from-within\/\">A flight to Antarctica on a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft seen from within<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/02\/02\/the-delivery-operation-of-a-ch-47f-chinook-helicopter-to-spain-with-an-american-c-17\/\">The delivery operation of a CH-47F Chinook helicopter to Spain with an American C-17<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>A few weeks ago we saw here <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/04\/a-flight-to-antarctica-on-a-united-states-air-force-c-17-aircraft-seen-from-within\/\">a video of a flight to Antarctica aboard a C-17 Globemaster III<\/a>, one of the United States Air Force's (USAF) strategic transport aircraft. <strong>A flight on such a plane is always an experience, but there is something even more exciting: ramp surfing on one.<\/strong> This is how the act of opening the rear ramp of the plane during a flight and sitting on it is known in aeronautical terms. <strong>These planes can open this ramp to drop cargo by parachute.<\/strong> In addition, ramp surfing is commonly used to take photos and film some of the most spectacular airplane videos you can see on the web.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@SamEckholm\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Eckholm<\/a> <strong>posted a cool video of himself ramp surfing aboard a C-17<\/strong> from the USAF's 313th Airlift Squadron, based at McChord AFB, Washington.<\/strong> <strong>The footage is spectacular:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Most Insane Flight On The C-17 Globemaster\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yuA0Qyc2iXM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>This video shows three C-17s flying low over the Cascade Mountains<\/strong>, one of the locations where the movie \"Top Gun Maverick\" (2022) was filmed. Specifically, this is where the images of the F\/A-18E\/F Super Hornet flying low over enemy territory were filmed. <strong>Seeing several C-17s flying low over there has to be impressive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54275879788_71ff174bde_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54275877289_84137ff6b4_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that <strong>ramp surfing\" is done by attaching a safety strap to the inside of the plane<\/strong>, to avoid falls.
