{"id":58486,"date":"2025-01-23T21:56:38","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T20:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=58486"},"modified":"2025-01-30T22:00:57","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T21:00:57","slug":"the-fering-pioneer-x-a-vehicle-for-special-forces-with-up-to-7000-km-of-autonomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/23\/the-fering-pioneer-x-a-vehicle-for-special-forces-with-up-to-7000-km-of-autonomy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Fering Pioneer X, a vehicle for special forces with up to 7,000 km of autonomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The market for light military vehicles is becoming increasingly interesting, with some particularly striking models.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/01\/20\/infantry-squad-vehicle-isv-the-solution-to-a-problem-created-with-the-successor-to-the-humvee\/\">Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), the solution to a problem created with the successor to the Humvee<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/04\/14\/caracal-rheinmetalls-4x4-for-special-forces-on-the-mercedes-benz-g-class\/\">Caracal: Rheinmetall's 4x4 for special forces on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the British company Fering presented <strong>a military version of its Pioneer FP1 electric off-roader<\/strong>, presented in 2021 and which was already the subject of attention by various specialized automotive media for two characteristics: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/exclusive-fering-pioneer-range-extender-4x4-exploration-focus\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its autonomy of up to 7,000 km and its fabric body on a lightweight modular aluminum chassis<\/a>, two characteristics that already indicated its possible orientation towards military customers. <strong>The military version is called Pioneer X and this is its presentation video:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Ultimate Expeditionary Vehicle: The Fering Pioneer X\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PbIeuyXnrjg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that <strong>this off-roader is described by Fering as \"electric\" <\/strong>, since it is powered by two separate electric motors (one on each axle), <strong>but the key to its extreme autonomy is partly explained by a combustion engine to recharge its batteries <\/strong>. As noted by the British website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/exclusive-fering-pioneer-range-extender-4x4-exploration-focus\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Autocar.co.uk<\/a> in 2021, the initial version of the vehicle included an 800 cc Smart turbodiesel engine. <strong>Its autonomy using only its batteries is 80 km.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54283509316_8089d6d671_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.janes.com\/osint-insights\/defence-news\/land\/iav-2025-fering-presents-pioneer-x-ultra-high-mobility-hybrid-tactical-vehicle\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Janes.com<\/a> noted that <strong>the Pioneer X uses a multi-fuel tank and a generator that powers small batteries,<\/strong> reserving battery-only mobility for trips that need to be quiet. <strong>The Pioneer X can carry up to 110 gallons (416 liters) of fuel,<\/strong> so depending on loaded weight, speed and terrain conditions, it could have a range of up to 7,000 km.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54282622412_7e5a4ba042_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the video description, Fering highlights that <em>\"<strong>the Pioneer X is a specialized variant developed in collaboration with international special forces<\/strong>, offering unmatched flexibility and capability. Thanks to its modular design, <strong>the Pioneer X can be customized in hours<\/strong>, not days, ensuring mission readiness in any scenario.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54283933380_4af44ff6f9_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the video we see this vehicle armed with a 12.7 mm Browning M-2 machine gun<\/strong> on top, a 7.62 mm <strong>FN MAG<\/strong> machine gun in the front right position (curiously, despite being a British vehicle, it has the steering wheel on the left) and <strong>eight smoke grenade launchers<\/strong> on its front, as passive defense. The vehicle has four seats, weighs <strong>1,650 kg empty, with a load capacity of up to 1,850 kg.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54282622377_a15c085774_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The British company also notes that <em>\"<strong>the built-in power station supports essential equipment such as e-bikes, drones, and communication devices<\/strong>, enabling extended off-grid operations.\"<\/em> Furthermore, in addition to its ability to operate in silent mode, the Pioneer X has a <em>\"<strong>low-thermal signature and advanced thermal masking technologies<\/strong> \u2013 delivering a tactical advantage for covert operations.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54282622417_c5f1b34842_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The United Kingdom already has a long experience of special operations vehicles.<\/strong> In fact, the British Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) pioneered this type of vehicle during World War II, with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwm.org.uk\/collections\/item\/object\/70000266\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chevrolet WB 30 cwt 4x2<\/a> modified in 1940 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-blueprints.com\/blueprints\/cars\/jeep\/48061\/view\/jeep_mb_sas_4x4_desert_raider\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the famous Desert Raider version of the Willys Jeep<\/a> in 1942. In the post-war period, the Special Air Service (SAS) used models such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwm.org.uk\/collections\/item\/object\/70000266\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chevrolet WB 30 cwt 4x2<\/a> modified in 1940 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-blueprints.com\/blueprints\/cars\/jeep\/48061\/view\/jeep_mb_sas_4x4_desert_raider\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Desert Raider version of the Willys Jeep<\/a> in 1942.
