A blockade that, according to the Cuba Democracy Act of 1992, is conditional on the communist regime holding "free and fair elections", on its respecting "human rights and basic democratic freedoms" and on its not providing "weapons or funds to any group in any other country seeking the violent overthrow" of the US government. This embargo could end if the dictatorship announced its dissolution, but the communists do not want to give up continuing to exercise power without free elections, with the opposition imprisoned and with the people mired in oppression.

Today, the only blockade in Cuba is the one that the communist dictatorship applies to the rights and freedoms of Cubans, acting as a tyranny in which it is not allowed to criticize the government, in which there are no free media and in which everyone who opposes communism is demonized and criminalized.

The Cuban dictatorship shows the support of Irene Montero

The dictatorship has not wasted the opportunity to show support for Irene Montero. On Thursday, the communist website Cibercuba.com, controlled by the dictatorship, stated:

Montero, who was part of Pedro Sánchez's coalition government and is one of the main figures of the Podemos party, reaffirmed her support for the Cuban government and stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries.

In her statements, she stressed the need to promote feminist policies and defend social progress against what she called "the rise of the extreme right".

For her part, Díaz-Canel thanked the visit and praised Montero's support for the Cuban Revolution. They also discussed the international situation and the economic sanctions imposed on Cuba.

So the fact is that a former minister of Pedro Sánchez's government and one of the leaders of an far-left party allied to that government, on whose votes she depends to remain in power, has visited Cuba to support a criminal dictatorship, a dictatorship that disguises itself under the term "Cuban revolution". With this, Irene Montero makes clear what she would do in Spain if she had a sufficient majority: the same thing that the communists of other countries have done wherever they have come to power.

The media close to Sánchez's government are silent about this visit...

The most astonishing thing is that Montero's trip to Cuba to support the dictatorship has been covered up by an astonishing media silence in Spain. Only a few media have reported on it, highlighting the support of the far-left MEP for that democratic regime. The media close to Sánchez's government have not said anything, perhaps so as not to spoil the events planned by the coalition executive of socialists and communists to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Franco's death. With what face do they criticize Franco's dictatorship while they ally themselves with those who support dictatorships like Cuba and Venezuela?

... and many media outlets close to the PP also hide it

The strangest thing has been the silence of many media outlets affiliated with the Popular Party. Theoretically, the PP is a party that opposes the Cuban communist dictatorship. However, and as is often the case with that party, the practice is something else. In April 2018, Mariano Rajoy, of the PP, congratulated Díaz-Canel when he became the new Cuban dictator, sending him a telegram in which he called him "esteemed Mr. President," addressing him with his "highest consideration and esteem" and without making any request for democratic elections and respect for human rights on that island. In 2021, the far-left newspaper Público boasted that PP governments never called Cuba's communist regime a "dictatorship." Some PP-aligned media outlets appear to have taken up this tradition of lukewarmness.

Communist Irene Montero has revealed her true political agenda this week with a visit to the communist dictatorship in Cuba.

[19536,11471
10444,94,10497,10169,14612,7841
post-58592","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-we-said-yesterday","category-hispanicity","tag-communism","tag-cuba","tag-far-left","tag-irene-montero","tag-miguel-diaz-canel","tag-podemos
